blu-ray and dvds are sorted this way, but separately...

regular movies, alphabetically. (boxed sets are separate but also alphabetical. for blu-rays I have the warner books at the end by themselves. some of my dvds from my favorite directors have a special spot on my desk)

tv shows, alphabetically.

documentaries, alphabetically

stand up, by comedian

music, by artist

Left to right

first are my numbered Blu Rays starting at the lowest nemerical number, then comes a-z. But The Dark Knight is going beside Batman Begins and all James Bond movies are under the b for Bond. I don't seperate TV or Mini Series yet, if I get a lot of TV series I might.

Alphabetically, but when TDK is release I might need to reconsider. The OCD in me will probably not be cool with not being able to slide TDK right next to Batman Begins.

I put the ones I know I can watch over and over on the top shelf, then the rest are but Genre so that I pick a movie depending on what mood I am in to watch.

I sort alphabetically unless they are in a box set, then I keep the box together.

Also, I generally sort by the first word other than "A" or "The". So "The Terminator" would be under Te, not Th. There are exceptions to this rule though, and that is when the title makes more sense with the word. Examples of this are "A League of Their Own" and "The Day After Tomorrow".

I keep the numbered movies first before the letter A begins: 007 Box Sets, 12 Monkeys, 300, 3:10 to Uma, 41 Year Old Virgin... Casino Royale is not under 007, but under 'C'. Maybe I should change that.

My Blu-ray and DVDs are mixed. I do not separate by type, although I have thought about it. I also do not sort out the Warner digibooks. It makes my collection look mismatched, but at least I can find a movie I want to watch pretty easily.

I keep ALL slipsleeves on, all boxes and special packaging stays, and no stickers come off unless it was on the plastic wrap. If there is a piece of paper with info on it, such as those on the back of the Warner digibooks, the Godfather collections, the Matrix collection, etc. then I take those, fold them in half nicely, and then slip them inside the packaging. I tried my best to keep them actually stuck to the packaging, but the more I pull the movies out the more they came off, so I just said screw it and folded it all up. I am anal about the originality of the piece, as if it's artwork. I also goo-be-gone every spec of stickering that may be left over from when I originally got the item. Most I don't need to do this with, but some I do.

I also have a TV section after my movies for things like Star Trak and MASH, as well as a section for my kids for movies like Muppet's and Garfield/Charlie Brown TV Specials, etc. I also have a Wii, PS3, and personal home movies sections as well.

Unfortunately for me, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" will be separated until a box set comes out. The same was true with "Die Hard" and "Live Free or Die Hard" until I got the box set. Can't have it both ways.

Ethan

I do mine alphabetically with sequels in order regardless of alphabetical order. Series are done by alpabetical order of the series, like Bond is done as B versus C for Casino Royale, and then order of release. I got into this habit with books where you have large series by the same author and you look for the author and then the books in order, and it just crossed over to movies.

I sort mine by the ABC Format.. "A comes before B, and G is after F" I also put movies with numbers starting out the title like "13 going on 30" before the letter A, in a small to larger numerical order..

I also order all of my blu-ray's in the same order except for the fact that they are in front of my DVD's.. The reasoning for this is cause I feel like it looks more orderly and plus as more catalog titles come out, I will replace the standard def dvd with the blu version, thus eventually eliminating all of my dvd format.
