I'd hate it that new releases from SONY start getting re-released a few months down the line because they've given us less than we deserved with the initial release.
A very valid concern considering we're talking about Sony here.

Well, it's looking like Ghostbusters is a new transfer. I got my previous copy for free, so I won't have an issue double dipping...

That new Ghostbusters cover art is seriously ugly. In fact this new packaging is awful in general.

Taxi Driver is already from a 4K transfer. It'll be the same disc.

So I guess this means that Glory and Ghostbusters will feature brand new transfers? Cause I'm just not sure if they were already mastered from 4K for their initial blu ray releases.

It's been officially confirmed that Ghostbusters is newly remastered. Nothing official about the other ones, so I'd make sure those are new before spending any money.

Sweet. Hopefully they fixed the color grading and contrast issues.

I still think the extras are gonna get dropped for these discs to distinguish them from the standard releases. I won't be at all shocked if that's the way in which these have been optimized for 4KTV.

EDIT: As per GhostbustersNews.com, which is quoting a press release, the new transfer is listed as the one "special feature":

http://ghostbustersnews.com/2013/04/...u-ray-release/

Quote:
Special Features:

The Blu-ray “Mastered in 4K” collection will set a new standard for Blu-ray HD picture and sound, creating the ultimate 1080p home entertainment experience. Created from the highest quality 4K source materials with new expanded color*, consumers can enjoy a brilliant picture with exquisite detail using their existing Blu-ray player or PlayStation®3. The Blu-ray “Mastered in 4K” collection is optimized so that 4K Ultra HD TV owners can take full advantage of the new 4K upscaling technology, delivering an outstanding near-4K experience. “Mastered in 4K” Blu-rays also work with all 1080p HDTVs for spectacular high definition picture and sound.

*Expanded color requires xvYCC-compatible TV and Blu-ray player

Why “Mastered in 4K” Blu-ray?
• Get the best Blu-ray picture possible, mastered from 4K source materials
• Push your TV to the limit with a high bitrate digital transfer for an immersive visual experience
• Ideal solution for new 4K TV owners and great for Blu-ray collectors
So, yeah. Don't expect these to be the same discs.

Also, the original THR piece lists Glory as "remastered" right alongside Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day, the latter of which the cinematographer has blogged about restoring in 4K from the negative: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...g-bad-a-416830

No, most only work for camcorder stuff.
Who made it?

I'll gladly pick up a re-release of Raimi's Spider-Man from an all-new 4K scan, just hope they do the same with the second one as well. Probably do the same with Ghostbusters even though I thought its transfer was all right. (Problematic, but not bad.)

The "Mastered in 4K" golden banners and text are atrocious, but I suppose they do their purpose of making these "4K-ready" BDs stick out.

Spider-Man 2 already comes from a 4K DI, that's why they are not remastering it...

Panasonic. I've got a PS3 though, that's listed in the ghostbusters press release, so I guess I'll be okay. Edit: no, hang on, the PS3 only mentions vx compatibility with AVCHD as well.

I guess what I meant to say was, "I hope they release a Blu-ray for Spider-Man 2 that actually looks good." I'm guessing some things went seriously wrong between the DI and Blu-ray transfer.
