I wonder if the Target steelbook exclusive will house this disc?

Why would it not? I think on the new releases, it's safe to assume that any disc will be the "Mastered in 4K" presentation.

Are you kidding me? When it comes to retailer exclusives, I try not to rule anything out!
A recent example was the MoS Target digibook in Canada didn't even have the exclusive content on the disc!
This won't be a deal breaker for me, but it would be nice to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

xvYCC isn't an absolute colour space, which means its result is based on the type of display you have and how it can handle/display the extended gamut.

What I would suggest is start with your display being calibrated as to the Rec.709 standard, and then enable x.v.Colour and observe the result. As I said, if there is a big difference, turn it off, as it will actually degrade PQ.
Not so sure about that if settings are correct then must be active.

The panny blu ray can you force deep colour (ie not auto)?
With samsung tv,s when receiving xvYCC you need to access menu and manually select x.v colour space(auto will not work). If it is grayed out or does not appear then you are not receiving xvYCC colour space.

The improvements with these disc,s is the higher bit rate and the first use of xvYcc ,extended - gamut colour space .(x.v.Color . Sony designation )
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/technol.../xvycc_01.html
With the use of xvYcc mastering and playback ,even products that support xvYcc may not work and some bluray players do not support it.Oppo 103/105 do not.
I have 2 HT systems with 3 bluray players, results so far with 10 MI4K blurays.

The good news,Toshiba bdx3200ky enable HDMI deep colour 30bit,36bit , with Panasonic TH-P60UT50 plasma auto detects x.v colour.
Not so good,my panasonic Dmp-bd85 officially supports x.v colour. My samsung plasma series 5 2010 model according to samsung all tv,s after 2007 support x.v colour. With Samsung tv ,auto for colour x.v decoding will not work ,it must be manually selected.
It seems my model does not support x.v colour as the option should appear in menu when receiving x.v colour ,it isn't grayed out it doesn,t appear at all.

Do you have the Spears & Munsil 2nd Edition test disc? That does have a xvYCC test square in the clipping pattern.
Don't have the Spears & Munsil test disc unfortunatly

My panny blu-ray player the Deep Color setting is set to auto which can be forced to On.
My Samsung TV xvYCC is set to On (under Picture/Advanced Settings). No grayed out options.

As far as I know after doing some reading Deep Color is unrelated to xvYCC.

True, but with some /all blu-ray players may treat, xvYCC as deep colour.
The toshiba BDX3200ky will only output X.V colour(xvYCC) when deep colour is enabled .

What does your samsung display when you hit info button on tv remote when playing these disc,s?

Just checked with the Panny BD and Deep Color has only "Auto" and "Off" Left it on Auto. With the Samsung it just displays the normal 1080p/24

Deep Colour has nothing to do with xvYCC. That's a separate feature.

What's probably happening is that when you enable Deep Colour on the Toshiba, its also enabling x.v.Colour/HDMI negotiation for xvYCC.

You also need to be outputting YCbCr. x.v.Colour will not work if your sending RGB. On another related note, Deep Colour isn't supported with YCbCr 4:2:2, which is why most players only have an 'auto' or 'off' setting.

Kind of reminds me of some of those really bad titles on DVD released as Superbit.

I'm surprised we haven't had anymore M4K catalog titles, have Sony given up on them or something?

Picked up This Is The End. I've only just watched it on DVD (which itself looked superb for plain old SD) so I'm not jonesing to watch it again so soon, but it was damned funny so I might just have to spin it again with a brew in my hand.

That is kind of what I have been thinking. They had to make a little splash with them when their UHD display was released, but at this point they probably are not making money on them.

That sounds about right.

It's a shame really because I really liked what they did with some of their films like Ghostbusters, Spider-Man's 1 & 2 etc and I was kinda hoping they would go back and fix some of their earlier catalog titles.

Oh well...

Color space selected, YCbCr and HDMI deep colour 36 bits. The owners manual does note that deep colour even when selected is Not output with deep colour when YCbCr 4:2:2 is selected.

I'd love to have seen a new version of BHD or Starship Troopers. Even Bad Boys could do with a new transfer because the colour is badly skewed on the current version.
