A member did mention the other day that the last trilogy set had a different transfer than the original release but I can't find anywhere to confirm that.

I only have the 2nd release so have no way to compare it.

That may have been me but idk.. I was told that these re releases have better PQ (at least for spiderman 1 and 2, 3 already had good PQ) and still most of the special features from the DVDs. When you look on the back side of each one, it also will read the special features they offer. I'm just on the fence as I want the best PQ and special features, but not both discs. If the PQ on the 2nd release isn't too much behind the 4k release, I may stick with the second release.

The rest are either negligible (like Taxi Driver and Battle: Los Angeles) or indistinguishable (like Total Recall and The Other Guys).

See what I mean?

I definitely see a difference with The Other Guys in those caps. The ugly sharpening on the original release is gone.

Thanks. The only problems we have in the UK with the 2nd release is SONY UK managed to put a cut version of the 2nd film on Blu-ray and we lose the bonus features disc of Spider-Man 3 (which isn't too hard to pick up).

Right, but try and see those minute differences at normal viewing distances.

I can't give you a official anwser on how those 2nd releases compare to the 1st releases, but I can say that the 2nd releases are NOT mastered from 4K. They used the same 2K master downconverted to 1080p that the 1st releases did. So any improvement from the 1st releases to the 2nd releases will come down to better mastering, bit rate etc, but they will still NOT look as good as the Mastered in 4K versions.

I wonder why they stopped rolling these out after 2 waves. Were they not selling or are they trying to catch up with movies that were actually mastered in 4k? They have a ton more classic titles that could benefit from this!

Agreed, would love to see others done and these were 'quality' 4K remasters. Unfortunately, I cannot help but think they were just not selling. It seems they are putting the label on some newer released movies but not marketing it as hard.

I'm still convinced that the primary purpose behind these releases was merely to put the concept of "4K" into consumers heads -- and secondarily to offer buyers of the new (at the time) Sony 4K TVs some kind of stop-gap content until true 4K/UHD material was available.

The Sony 4K server currently has plenty of catalog titles that haven't made it into this line-up. JERRY MAGUIRE and the theatrical cuts of DAVINCI CODE and TALLADEGA NIGHTS are all high on my wish list.

Maybe they're holding them back until 4KBD is rolled out?

Technically they didn't as both Elysium and Captain Phillips, both, say Mi4k. I'm not sure if there have been any other new releases to receive this treatment. So while not a "catalog wave", a trickle nonetheless.

Yeah and Laurence of Arabia got a true mastered in 4K release in Japan at least. Hoping more will follow but it might be that they didn't sell well enough. What a surprise when some wasn't even a upgrade and others got inferior shorter versions. How is Sonys 4K streaming doing? That can be a clue of what to come.

I don't think the marketing for these helped either. I bet a lot of potential customers were lost due to confession and uncertainty.
