I was extremely impressed with the transfers on Elysium and Captain Phillips. However I saw screen comparisons for Total Recall remake Bluray vs MI4K Bluray and could not even tell a difference. Taxi Driver MI4K looked worse then the bluray by a extremely small percentage. Spider-Man looked better in MI4K for sure.

Thats a false statement, everyone that posted in this forum has stated that the 4K Taxi driver has no improvement over the normal release.

Not a false statement. The difference isn't obvious, but there are definitely very subtle ways in which the MI4K release looks better (IMO).

Slight colour difference here. Look at the white signs. http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ss=1#vergleich Look at the Dependable Taxi Service stamp. AS I SAID nothing major, but a slight difference is a difference nevertheless. |

Moneyball is easily the most improved new film they've re-released. Unless you like sharpening and noise I suppose...

By the way, Moneyball was mastered in 4K for its theatrical release, so both transfers come from 4K sources. Sony just filtered the original for reasons I cannot fathom.

I have about 6 of them & everyone that actually has any of the discs are agreeing on the improvement areas.
This biggest one to me is the grain is better resolved. It's not as obtrusive as it is on the regular disc. Colors are also slightly more vibrant & there is less sharpening on the edges. Though the details may be slight except for me the grain which is a very big deal to me they are there. The ones I've picked up I've sold the old discs happily. You have to remember Sony made these to upscale on their new 4k TVs. It wasn't a marketing ploy for everyone to replace discs. We were just a benefactor of the discs because they do add marginal improvement in certain areas on regular HD TVs. I've been happy with the ones I've added to my collection. But I didn't feel the need to go out & purchase all of them. The people that are complaining either haven't purchased any or they don't have the equipment necessary to see any difference. Again it is subtle but it is there. I'm all for the best master possible on every title whether it's slight or a huge difference. I import Blu-rays also if they have better masters outside of the US. |
