The following blogger/reporter piece -> http://www.flatpanelshd.com/focus.ph...&id=1453967327
, sent to me, is a pretty nice ![]() The statement that “LG argued that OLED can reproduce over 20 “dynamic stops” compared to 12 for high-end LCDs” is not quite as numbers significant as LG would make one believe given post houses are (and still do) grade the content so that it can best be seen by the vast majority of the public……which, mind you, owns LCD tvs. ray learned that ^ lesson last summer ![]() btw, where is our ray (from Irvine)? Hope all is well heath wise. Secondly, the interviewer claims he was told…. “So if you have an OLED TV capable of reaching 600 nits peaks it will simply cut off the higher-end of the brightness range in the DV signal. How to best do that is still being debated (italics mine). Neil told us that last year’s HDR OLED TVs tended to clip highlight details in very bright scenes due to this intentional clipping of the upper end. This year’s models will have an improved algorithm to retain more details.” Hmmm....There was/is really no “debate” as to the best practice and procedure for managing highlight or shadow details, as this has been known for a long time in engineering circles, e.g. “of course roll-off, rather than hard clipping”. It just seems that LG got with the program in 2016. Full Disclosure: Personally, if I felt inclined to soon purchase a new TV and down-sizing as well as cost was of little concern, I think I would purchase the 2016 LG Signature series 65” 4K OLED. |

Tough decisions to come. There are basically 3 TVs in the running for me this year...the 65" E6 OLED is certainly one of them. I just am NOT sold I can live the next 3-4 years with a 65" TV instead of a 75". |

For instance, I really don't enjoy that much the TV we have in our bedroom and often multi-task while watching it. |

Part of the ^ LG tv Super Bowl commercial kind of reminds me of Tron: Legacy, and from that, past reminisces from a previous bike ride with other (non-corporate) Insiders
![]() and follow-ups which, for the sake of those reading now, but may not have been around the forum of Blu-ray.com back in 2011, reveals the cinematographer referenced for years in my Signature…..the same fellow who shot the first 4K feature motion picture released in theatrical Dolby Vision. |

Peter, unless you live in Flint Michigan
![]() I kind of like it. Plus, considering how expensive Super Bowl commercials are, think how much longer it takes to say “O dash L dash E dash D”. |
