Sure, I wasn't so much disputing your point sir as making it plain that DV still has a long ways to go...

OK, I just got word back on Deadpool, as I also contacted JT Hilversum (Also DV theater) here in the Netherlands. The manager told me they have 4K copies of Deadpool.

2-1.

Could still be a straight 2K upscale though, it was also shot on Alexa so it's sub-4K acquisition to begin with anyway *Geoff grasps at straws even though Roger Deakins said that a 4K finish still looked better than 2K for his Alexa shows*

Thanks Pieter, the awesome gif alone soothes my pain

Oh boy, I should have never started this subject. OK, I asked him for the exact resolution. I don't want to be rude/pushy and request to put all cards on the table.

Hopefully I will get an answer tomorrow and from JT Eindhoven.

He specifically mentioned a 4K copy, along with The Hateful Eight those were the only two 4K copies he had in his Cinema.

So he has never played a recent Sony movie?

For the folks that are going to Best Buy today to get movies, can we post a pic of the UHD section? Would be very curious if they follow the same setup that Tyrok posted

They should have The Revenant as well, so I don't believe him.
I doubt his knowledge. The manager just yells something into the wild. Just giving you the answer you like the hear, and wants you to visit his local Dolby Cinema.

Well, I ignored the manager of JT Hilversum. As I got an answer back from JT Eindhoven. This time from a technical guy, instead of the Manager/PR guy.

He told me the resolution was 2028x858. And for Dolby Cinema Deadpool was calibrated at 7K, where the laser projectors can produce black levels. Nice inside info.

I have sent him another e-mail asking, if he could give me a glimpses of current and upcoming movies with a 4K DCP. Hopefully I will get an answer.

Well, any movie with a 3D release is 2K, unless it's Sony....

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, was also one of the few exceptions.

So the Deadpool Dolby DCP *is* 2K then? I will refrain from quoting your gif back at you.

I have asked him in the same e-mail, if he could be more clear on this matter.
Still waiting on a reply.

It wasn't released in 3D in the United States... That's why....

Deadpool is clearly 2K:

Sounds like the DCP is 2K but projection is at 4K.

The Best Buy in north Dallas had no display. They had to go in the back to retrieve what few titles they had (The Martian and Kingsman were already up front waiting for me to pick them up) and chose to include Exodus as well as the other two titles. Rushed home to plug them in to check things out.
The colors are off (the blue background for the rating is now purple) and the contrast is boosted higher than usual. Unfortunately my Samsung JU7500 does not have HDR. If anyone hears of adjustments to get this high resolution discs to looking there best, please share with us. All in all, the detail is spectacular and blows away standard blu ray in my opinion (I am plugged directly into the one connect box for the video and the audio is going to my audio receiver).

2 German UHD releases. Available for pre-order at Amazon Germany. Moonshots 4K will be released May 23 and Europa 4K will be released July 4. I know Moonshots 4K has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but I put it in here anyway.

Does anyone know if it is usual to include English subtitles on Japanese releases? I would love to get these 2 Rurouni Kenshin releases that were bundled with the Panasonic DMR-UBZ1 last november, but I'm afraid I don't understand very much Japanese.

My local Best Buy finally had the discs out today. They were all sitting in a single row, and the most they had of any title was ten copies (The Martian), and most titles had five or less. Strangely, I've just realized that they did not have any Life of Pi, but they did have the other seven March 1st titles. I picked up all of them except Fantastic Four (2015) and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials:

[Show spoiler]

I believe at least part of the reason that the discs were on an "additional stock" shelf is due to the store not having any players yet. There was an associate in the Magnolia section who seemed genuinely interested in seeing the content, though, and he said that as soon as he got them in-store (he said the system just showed that the player was due at the end of the month), he'd see that one was put out for demonstraion, which he believed would be in the Magnolia section. Quite bizarrely, when he looked at each of my selections, he only knew of The Martian, though he may have noted that another one or two "were bad [quality movies]", concluding that the $27.99 price is reasonable, but only indicating a willingness to buy The Martian. I wonder what this says about the covers of titles (on any format), and whether these images really do help average consumers to spot the films they like, or pique their interest in others they don't know of.

So yes, now I own five Fox UHD titles, and no player or TV to watch them on. Happily, I can get rid of the three I owned on Blu-ray.
