Perhaps we need an Ultra HD Blu-ray category below members’ avatar in order to enumerate their Ultra collections?

Can someone answer this question...I have a Sony 4k blu ray player that doesn't play 4k discs it only brings the picture quality to 4k...so would there be any difference in picture quality if I purchased a 4k blu ray player that actually plays 4k discs?

yes. UHD discs are much better quality. higher bit rate, more "information" on the disc.

what tv do you have?

Might be off-topic here but taken from a 4k master from a 4k source? Sure. Just go look at the Sony 4k images of Dracula at caps-a-holic. It is definitely different then the 1080p version.

Upscales like the Fox UHD? Probably only minimal detail difference but then there is HDR if that floats your boat.

Regrettably, zero luck grabbing Sicario, Mad Max, and San Andreas today at my local BB. They had em in stock, but told me release date wasnt until the 1st.

Wasn't about to traipse to all BBs to track em down. I'll wait to Tuesday.

I think folks on this particular thread are purrty good though.

For free advice (which means a lot, given the hourly rate a top post house like Company 3 charges), skip to ~ 2min. 30sec. mark after the Tomorrowland trailer runs thru….

But of course, there’s more to it than just choosing/using a premiere (low noise) acquisition for HDR grading and deliverables as previously advised.

You do not have a sony 4k bluray player. You have a 1080p player that upscales to 4k.

I don’t know Peter . I’m beginning to question whether all these images of Ultra HD Blu-rays (esp. Salt, Hancock, The Pineapple Express) that people are posting are fake or science fiction . Because “according to Joe Kane”….

its good that the PQ score of reviews dont exceed 4 or max. 4.5 atm. most movies have not natively been either shot or processed at 4k, so are at least partly upscaled. other movies which are or will be will therefore look better. so its good to have headroom to the top.

Are any Best Buys carrying the 4K Samsung player? I've tried looking for store pickup and it simply says unavailable. Usually it lists stores with 0 copies but the site doesn't even let me see the list. Odd?

I think it has taken Best Buy by surprise on how much in demand this player is. I've got one on pre-order at the store near me and they do not have it in stock yet. I'm told the pre-orders will be handled first come first serve and I will be one of the first to be called when stock arrives. It may take a few weeks before we see them on actual shelves. But that also may depend on how popular your store is, and how many pre-orders are to be filled.
