![]() NSFW? I stopped watching after a few seconds when my wife walked by and asked what I was doing. Is that a porno video starting out with a guy waking up in some hotel in Thailand, as I’m afraid to see who comes out of the bathroom and what happens next. |

https://blog.harmonicinc.com/reality...r-deployments/ Dolby Vision is flexible: in the past only BT.1866 gamma as base layer, then also HDR10, and now also HLG. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=7823 In a HLG HDR broadcast plant, ST 2094-10 Dolby Vision metadata can be created in some encoder. ![]() https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=971 |

ie, base layer = 10bit HEVC 2160p and then to get the other 2 bits of picture data for each pixel, they can be taken from the enhancement layer (10bit HEVC 1080p). so, each pixel from the enhancement layer contains the extra data bits to covers 5 pixels (2bits +2+2+2+2) in the base layer. (Or 4, with the other 2 bits for other uses). Just my speculation. |

The enhancement layer (EL) first goes through a stream splitter to separate the video stream from the metadata, and I don't mean just the Display Management metadata (which doesn't apply at this stage) but the predictive data that's been generated to differentiate the base layer (BL) from the enhancement layer and vice versa. If the EL's resolution doesn't already match the BL then it gets upscaled to the same rez and is inverse quantized (rebuilt) using a set of pre-defined coefficients in the metadata relating to luma, chroma etc. The BL meanwhile is undergoing processing of its own, going through a stage where it's made ready for the added enhancements using Prediction coefficients and EL Processing coefficients to map it to the EL. The same thing is happening to the EL to essentially create the difference between it and the BL using BL Processing coefficients. The two processed signals are then combined and their sum total is the 12-bit Dolby Vision output stream which is transmitted at 4:2:2 in keeping with modern video specs that don't usually permit 4:2:0 at <50/60p (I've seen nothing to suggest that the actual DV content itself is rendered out at 4:2:2). |

video, or otherwise -
In thee ol’ days would get donuts, or at most, croissants, when defending your dissertation in front of the committee and few outside the building were aware of your accomplishment, but that really didn’t matter at all because in your heart (and in those of your family) you knew you had accomplished something significant after years of hard work. In modern times (these days) when somebody receives a doctorate degree, they announce it on twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc. as if they need positive reinforcement for achieving their goal from people they barely know or don’t even know at all. I never did get that. Not sure if it reflects the digital narcissistic society in which we now live (“I am proud to announce I [fill in the blank]”), insecurity or what. Just seems the days of quiet personal satisfaction being all that was needed, e.g - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN7tuTNCBZE#t=1h21m7s are long gone. |
