Tom has the right attitude for this project. No CGI! Planes have to be real! Of course, knowing how Cruise enjoys his own stunt work, I believe that this is just his ploy to get to actually fly a multimillion dollar military jet by himself!!!

If I am correct, and he is successful, he'll have to change his call sign from Maverick to Da Real Thug Life.

Whatever it's worth, a step in the right direction.

Good luck with that...

DoD letting them use Jets?

So, Tom Cruise wants to do Top Gun 2, but only “if there’s no CGI on the jets” and if the film relies, instead, on practical effects.

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do. I’d like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI,” Cruise, who starred as Maverick in the 1986 original, told Extra. “I’m saying right now, no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun.”

I think this is in reference to Tony Scott getting military cooperation with the original film, for scenes involving full-size planes on the aircraft carrier. Tom probably meant the production using models and professional pilots for the dogfight sequences, which happened in the first as well. All the cockpit shots were done against blue-screen, or moving paintings of clouds.

Val Kilmer took to his Facebook page this morning to confirm that he has been asked back for the long-gestating Top Gun 2, in which he will reprise the role of “Iceman.”

“I just got offered ‪Top Gun 2,” he writes. “Not often you get to say “yes” without reading the script… We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I’ve ever met in the film biz, but let’s fire up some fighter jets again!!!”

The Top Gun sequel, a follow-up to Tony Scott’s 1986 hit, has been in the works for quite some time with Tom Cruise interested in reprising his role as United States Naval Aviator Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Scott was interested in returning to the director’s chair himself prior to his tragic passing.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously outlined that the film will deal with the rise of unmanned drones and pilots becoming a thing of the past.

“The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones? [Tom Cruise as Maverick] is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay,” Bruckheimer said.

Screenwriter Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) penned the most recent draft of the script, following a draft by Peter Craig (The Town).

I thought he could be the aircraft carrier, but he silmmed down and aged 100 years.

Isn't a top gun 2 without the original director a bad idea? I know he's dead but the movie should not be made without him.

Yup, Tony was my directing hero.
Ridley in Black Hawk Down mode could pull it off

Val has a tumor or had it for a while, he didn’t want to get medical treatment for it because of his religious beliefs, and for the past year and half has been wearing a scarf on his neck, so I don’t know how he is going to work on TP2.

He also looked very, very fragile.

Didn't know he was having medical issues hope he gets better. Like for a different story than drones seems to much like Stealth.

Compared to the others Tom is immortal. He just doesn't seem to age.

he's also Much richer than all the others, so can Easily afford any "help" to stay looking young, or YoungER, which doesn't mean Plastic Surgery really, I should have wrote "Assistance" there ---- I'm pretty sure he just takes very good care of himself for the many physically demanding roles he does - plus hires the TOP Nutritionists, Chefs, Trainers, you name it.

Anyway, I wonder who they'll get for Director. Ridley Scott would be an interesting & maybe, Sentimental choice, for obvious reasons - But, they could also go with Doug Liman, Christopher McQuarrie, Joseph Kosinski, Brad Bird, all of whom he's seemed to develop an affinity with, esp Liman & McQuarrie in recent years.
