Wow, hard to believe it won't surpass The Battle at Lake Changin as a single-territory grosser.

Here's your list for Domestic

Screenshot_20220724-190304_Chrome.jpg

It's @ #24 right now; will it make the top 20 of that list? It is possible.
-----

As for Worldwide adjusted for inflation Top Gun: Maverick stands below #50
Would it make the top 50 of that list? It is possible.
The Speedo Guy (No Way Home) is @ number 18.

See, even adjusted for inflation it's a a heck of a ride.
And, it's not playing in China, and, we are in a pandemic.

I don't see Gone with the Wind on that list. I thought it was supposed to have sold the most tickets of any movie domestically.

It says at the top it only includes movies released since 1977. So it automatically leaves out some of the biggest money makers of all time.

Wow. There's not a single Marvel movie in the top ten. That's odd. I would've thought at least one would be on that list.

Somewhat. Still, I thought A Marvel would have made the list. What with all the clamoring about how great box office movies they are.

If that was worldwide grosses then they'd be right up there. But as that list is for domestic US grossers only then yeah, most modern movies - even those that were formerly The 1 movie of all time™️ - don't get anywhere near. Note that Force Awakens is at number 11, it had to gross just shy of a billion dollars in the US to even get close to those old-timey flicks and was a truly staggering haul for the modern era.

But, as I keep saying over and over and over whenever people dredge these figures up, most of those flicks had multiple theatrical reissues over many decades which have swelled the coffers. The bulk was grossed on initial release for sure, but even a few million grossed 50 years ago would be worth a hell of a lot more now. Just look at the 1997 Star Wars SE: it grossed $138M which would alone be worth over $250M today!

TGM definitely will merit a reissue... the question is not if but when.

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. I do agree with you about the re-releases. Sort of like what Disney used to every few years. It padded its overall earnings of some of their classic animated films. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

Grosses
DOMESTIC (49.5%)
$635,836,882
INTERNATIONAL (50.5%)
$647,700,000
WORLDWIDE
$1,283,536,882

This flick if well strategically implemented on the big screens moving forward has still great potential financially record wise @ top speed and beyond. It helps too that Mickey Mouse is out of the picture.

I have been saying that the last summer / early fall is a perfect time for a re-launch of some kind.... Hope Paramount will listen.

This already is the #3 franchise of the 2020s... could go higher!

Yes, I know that tune you've been singing for the last while and above.
It's a "jolie chanson" and they might do something with it indeed. That's a possibility for shure.

Cruise and the gang @ Paramount Pictures they seem to know what they're doing with their beautiful baby. They want the world to see it in its very best light ... IMAX.
And this baby is far from aging fast.

There are no other babies this year to shake its foundations, not until @ least Avatar 2.
Anything else is Mickey mouse for kids.

Two billions?
