Anyone I know who has caught this thing has been working in the medical field. I hate to say it, but she was probably the carrier and was the source of the spread more then likely.

Nice to see some food vendors back out on the streets in Manhattan but all of these boarded-up storefronts isn't doing the city any favors. Place looks like a disaster movie. Definitely more people out and about but it's still eerily quiet in many spots.

Yesterday was out and about getting some necessities. Each store I went to had a sign on the door: No Mask, No Service. All the people in the stores were wearing masks. But once again the only social distancing was at the registers.

Social distancing? What's that? The thing most New Mexicans are ignoring and as such, is probably one of the main reasons our numbers are bad despite having so few people.

Yes this is exactly why I wear my masks for 1 shift then wash them, which I would hope all of my co-workers are doing.

Also hope all of the ones who wear disposables are not re-using them.

The ADA issued guidelines/recommendations a while ago here in the US. Not sure what is happening in Canada, but both my local dentist and periodontist have modified their offices in terms of coronavirus protection with everything, e.g. - PPE, temp checks, sanitizing rooms between patients, less patient load, air filters, etc. except for the UV light zapping as seen in the example from the msnbc report –

as well as medical problems.

So, I think during the corona times if one needs dental work (as there are some issues which are ‘non-emergent’ but still should not be put off indefinitely) one should try to find an office like this -
https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/watch/vi...en-83703365642

and probably safest to be the first patient of the day.
You may want to call first and ask non-happy talk questions as to what your local dental provider has done since the pandemic. Also, as noted above, first appt. of the day would probably be a good idea.

The unanswered questions have been exactly which steroid (potentcies differ) to administer and when during the course of the disease process to give it for maximum therapeutic value.

I went to the dentist yesterday to get a filling. I was also there only 2 weeks ago. They are wearing PPE. They also checked my temp when I sat down in the chair.

I'm posting this because I continue to see people spreading misinformation about the spread of the virus in the air (aerosols). Many seem to think this is not a concern.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/people-ge...115751594.html

People are getting sick from coronavirus spreading through the air – and that's a big challenge for reopening

Quote:
I am a scientist that studies infectious diseases and I specialize in severe respiratory infections, but I also serve as a member of my church’s safety team.
Quote:
An early study from researchers at the National Institute of Health kept the virus airborne for four hours and found live virus the whole time. A subsequent pre-print study that I was part of found that the coronavirus can stay alive for up to 16 hours in the air.
Quote:
Neither the initial study nor the one that I was involved with measured the impact of temperature, humidity, ultraviolet light or pollution on survival of the virus in aerosols. There is evidence that simulated sunlight can inactivate 90% of SARS-CoV-2 viruses in saliva on surfaces or in aerosols within seven minutes. These studies suggest that the virus would be rapidly inactivated outdoors, but the risk of transmission indoors would remain.
Quote:
A paper published just last week compared the success of mitigation measures – like social distancing or mask wearing – to try and determine how the virus is spreading. The authors concluded that aerosol transmission was the dominant route. This conclusion is hotly debated in the scientific community, but this study and others do show the effectiveness of masks in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
Quote:
The evidence strongly suggests that airborne transmission happens easily and is likely a significant driver of this pandemic. It must be taken seriously as people begin to venture back out into the world.
Quote:
Since the primary risk is indoors, increasing ventilation rates and not recirculating air inside buildings would remove the virus from the indoor environment faster.
Of course keep in mind, restaurants that just use a bunch of ceiling fans is simply recirculating the air, not recycling it. And I see images of gyms now with individual, self-contained sealed exercise areas. That's all a bad idea - as the air is now trapped in there, with the aerosolized virus now trapped inside there for the next person who enters, breathing in that enclosed, trapped air.

The takeaway from that article for me is that while the sunlight is likely to kill most or virtually all of the aerosolized virus outdoors, the risk remains indoors, and the more they close off indoor areas, the more of a threat it will become in the months ahead. If anything, they should be allowing more outdoor activities, and continue limiting indoor groups.

I have only three masks, so I can't rewash-them every day, but I try to get them in the laundry at least once per week (just did a load this afternoon).

Once a mask gets wet it needs to be changed.

Very important to wear a mask. If you feel warm with it or have difficulty breathing, then just wear it on your chin. It's just as effective that way.

^ above video is from Las Vegas' Cosmopolitan hotel resort (pretty cool place, highly recommended). Of note, there were maybe 5% of the people wearing masks while 100% of the employees did.
Well this didn't take long to show up after the twitter video of people not wearing masks at Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas:

Which is useless if anyone is asymptomatic.

And PPE or not, having your wide open gaping mouth inches away from the Dentist's for upwards of an hour - if they're infected, you're infected. Period.

If they're using an N95 mask, which my dentist was, they block well over 95% of micron particles and all of the larger droplets. Even without a mask, it would take several minutes for them to infect you unless they sneezed in your face. You would be protected for hours with proper PPE.

Think about it. Would they let dentists open if they knew they would infect patients even with proper PPE?
