Not a snowball’s chance in hell mate. He got us to a final for the first time since 1966. These young players will have learnt a heck of a lot also.

Someone on Talk Radio this morning saying that the FA would have been delighted if England reached the semi's. As an Englishman, yes I would love to have seen England go all the way and win, but at the end of the day there's no shame at all losing to Italy. The Italians are a top side. But once the England team get over the disappointment of last night, I think overall they should be pleased at what they've achieved.

At the very least it’s kept me going until the footy season starts! Just 4 weeks now!

I had to laugh the other day while listening to a phone-in on a radio show (I think it was LBC) and some woman on there saying she looked forward to the football finishing so that TV schedules can go back to normal. I'm thinking, what??......soaps, soaps, and more soaps 365 days a year, interspersed with cookery, house-makeover, auction programmes, reality shows, etc etc, and all the usual garbage on terrestrial television - yet she complains about a bit of footy once every couple of years.

I watch no current mainstream TV at all, it's 99% garbage, even the news is badly reported and unchallenging. I have a stack of Blu-rays to keep me busy

Don’t blame you. I have watched a few quality shows this year, BBC drama Time starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham and It’s A Sin (C4). I thought both were excellent .

Nothing beats Twin Peaks though!

Glad you enjoyed the tournament, I certainly did.
'Not realistic', I don’t think so, for even if they were tired, they really had no right to be given how little they traveled outside England and that they possess a stronger bench than does Italy. Italy pushed harder from the 1st match of the tournament compared to England. On top of that, Italy losing the attacking midfielder Spinazzola earlier in another match due to an Achilles injury and Chiesa near the end of regulation time in this match should have compelled England to change tactics and become more offensive minded, but it didn’t. Not to mention Italy had two ‘old guys’ defending in back one of whom had the COVID earlier in the year.

No, if Mancini can change the long-standing previous mentality of defense minded Italian football, then Southgate (believe me, I admire his class and professionalism both with the press and his players and think he should stay on as manager) Southgate should be able to learn from this experience and employ a strategy of doing less sitting back and more pressing and offensively minded football for the future , like the upcoming World Cup, especially when you have the player personnel to do so.

His penalty-taker selections aside , unless you are a clearly inferior team as compared to your opponent (and England isn't - what the heck, weren't they even slightly favored by the oddsmakers going in?), you never want it to go to a penalty shootout because those things are such a crap shoot to begin with.

Steed, lol, if I ever get up to your neck of the woods and we go out to dinner, I have a feeling we’ll do so much talking football (strategy, tactics, heritage) that we won’t be able to get more than a few bites in and our food will get cold. Definitely, we’ll both need to bring +1s.
