I've never seen L'Avventura. Can you guys tell me what's so special about? Scorsese seems to love it, too.

Monica Vitti! Seriously, I don't know maybe it's the mood it sets but whatever it is Vitti embodies it. It's a film I love but have a hard time telling others in terms that makes sense. Does that make sense?

Bare-Bones? On that movie....I don't know. Like Birdman, it's a movie that has to have extras only because of how they're made, especially Boyhood.

I think the bare-bones comment refers to the Paramount release...I am sure the Criterion with have extras.

Speaking of which, I'm still waiting on the supposed special edition of that to pull the trigger.

Sorry, there's a theme of alienation that runs through the three films and there is an iciness that Vitti exudes that fits perfectly. She is to Antonioni what say Ullmann and the Anderssons are to Bergman, sort of essential or perfect partners.

Isn't it almost announcement day for Feburary? Yeeeeaaaahhhh!

Also I'm getting ready to place my first B&N sale order. I need opinions on two Bergmans - The Magician & Smiles of A Summer Night. If I can only buy one which is best to purchase first?
