BWDowiak, that goes for you too! I know you're a fan of the fuzzy green.
You'll be getting a new green carpet though, right?

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Green carpet does funny things to one's brain...makes you think of 2 things.. 1) either you have grass growing under your feet or 2) the color of money. Either way, its not healthy.

Time to go neutral..I'm thinking grey.

Talking about how to know if Eraserhead is correct printing:

This is not true. The disc itself says "second printing," but the packaging says first.

Buying from Barnes & Noble, I took the chance that one with a white sticker on the back of the wrapper, over the barcode would be a correct disc, and it was. I judged this because I saw one without a sticker at all, but the rest had it. The price tag stickers all say the 9/16 street date, so that's not an indicator. Also, I could be wrong. I took the risk, worst case scenario I send it in for replacement.

My first time taking advantage of the B&N sale. Finally decided on Hausu.

I almost had a panic attack, I wanted everything so badly. CC is so much more tempting in person.

They really can sneak up on you that way. A lot of people dismiss the importance of cover art and packaging but those things can definitely raise the 'eh, what the hell' level when you've actually got one in your hand.

Even if you don't enjoy the second and third films as much, the set is worth it for all the extras; the various interviews with Reggio over the years are fascinating, and of course you get Anima Mundi as well.

Personally I loved all three movies - I almost like Powaqqatsi more than Koyani!

Baraka, on the other hand, I enjoyed some but found it a little depressing.

Quick question for the group... I noticed yesterday at BN a plastic case edition of Foreign Correspondent, and the original digi-pack style packaging (both dual format it seemed). Anyone else see these? I didn't see it as a replacement package on Criterion's site, so just wondering what gives. I like the look of the special packaging, but sometimes they take up a lot of space, i.e. Red River and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Is this just a random title they did, or has anyone heard that they are doing this more often?

I don't believe there is any indication at this time that they are doing this more often (Aside from also Night of The Hunter and The Leopard).

Nope.

The 400 Blows and Breathless received dual-format upgrades.
Foreign Correspondent received a BD only plastic case downgrade.
The Leopard and The Night of the Hunter received replacement cases.

yeah the dual formats are really upgrades ! i dont use DVDs myself anymore if there is a bluray. but i like the wight of the dual format releases. feels more like a "quality" product. much more than a single disc release with a thin booklet or leaflet

same for the 3 disc cases. they are just awesome.

wouldnt really call this a downgrade. since all other hitchcock criterions are amaray cases as well. but the digipack is dual format at least.

waited for the leopard to be rereleased

Also, not sure if I'd want to own all of the films in the set (same goes for the Demy set). Not to mention I already own their previous Blu-ray release of PlayTime and the Nordic DVD release of Mon Oncle (with short films). It's been a long time since I've watched those. So I'll pass on the set for now.

Instead, I'll probably just go with three regular releases. These are the three films I'll probably end up ordering:

L'Avventura (have seen before, great film)
Seconds (have seen before, Hudson was superb in this)
All That Heaven Allows (blind buy but have seen some YT clips and loved them)

The first two are pretty much set in stone but third one is open for any suggestions. You can see my current Criterion collection here.
Since you already have La Notte, you might as well get L'Eclisse to complete the Antonioni trilogy. ATHA is a good film as well, and if there is one Douglas Sirk film to own, this is the one. For the ones who own or have seen L'Eclisse, there's a scene early in the film that was a bit off putting for me for it's casual treament of a certain subject matter. I've only seen half the movie last night, so maybe I haven't watched it in it's proper context. I'll listen to the audio commentary and hear what the commentator's opinion of that scene.

As I mentioned the other day, I’m flying to India tomorrow.

Here is how I will keep myself sane for 16 hours and 55 minutes:

I’m reading the Orson Welles novel Mr. Arkadin that comes with the 3 disc CC DVD box set.

I plan to watch disc 2 of my DVD copy of Citizen Kane. There is a documentary film called The Battle Over Citizen Kane that I haven’t seen.

..and I’m bringing Antonioni’s L’Eclisse which I have never seen.

I’m a rather slow reader. I’m 3 chapters into the Welles novel and it’d be pretty cool to finish it before I get to New Delhi. We’ll see!

Best of luck. I think my longest plane trip was a hair over 14 hours, but it was one of 4 flights that day. Let us know how the Kane doc is. I haven't seen it yet either.

Changing subjects - I'm thinking of snagging an Eclipse set tonight after work. Anyone have any strong opinions on:

Early Bergman
Malle Docs
Shochiku Horror

It should be known that I do not generally like horror films, but adore Japanese cinema.

Unfortunately, in North America, it's the ONLY Douglas Sirk film you can own on Blu-ray. I'd love to see Written on the Wind released next.

I prefer Magnificent Obsession, but Written On The Wind needs the upgrade more.
