That is EXACTLY how I feel when I have watched his films, and why I just don't enjoy them really. I've just never been able to articulate it properly.

The difference being that Mulholland Dr. is one of the greatest films ever made.

LOL

Well, I've thought about that many times. And I am not sure. I am, however, pretty sure that wasn't it.

And thanks you everyone for the suggestions on Asian cinema. I've saved them all to a text file that will hopefully be in use soon.

Interesting to read. If the scene were tounge in cheek or meant to be funny, then I guess I really don't get it!

I wanna see Mullholland Dr. CC Blu as much as the next guy. But what will be the special features? I thought Lynch has bearly ever talked about the film's meanings etc?

The thing to do would be for them to create themselves the bonus material. There is quite a story to be told about the making of the film, and the acclaim it has since received in the years after its release. Aside from that, I'm sure Lynch would provide something for the supplements. Perhaps another cooking segment? I really doubt we're going to see it anytime soon, though. I hope I'm wrong!

A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935)
Complete Masahiro Shinoda box set
A Canterbury Tale (1944)
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970)
Mother Joan of the Angels (1961)

I think it's just as valid of a possibility as any. After all those years, he's got to have a pretty serious case of blue balls.

I think I rented it on VHS and was moderately whelmed. I've had the region-free German BD set on my shelf for a few months but still haven't found quite the right moment to give it a spin.

In my defense, a lot of those night were spent working my way through the Twin Peaks set. That was a blast, I have to admit.

Great supplements too.

I felt that way about my first viewing of Mulholland Drive. Second viewing was what got me hooked.

It was the case, as with all his work to me, that I was hyper-aware of what was going on cinematically/stylistically but it all just gelled in a way his others don't, where I could overlook the random title cards and crap because it actually fit - probably because the fantastical direction was matched with a fantastical cast of talking animals.
I used to place it higher on my list, but as I rewatch it, I am liking it less, and some of his other films more.

I still like it quite well (And I am a fan of his work in general) I just prefer some of his other films.

Hello all!
First post, but longtime lurker. I quite like Wes's films. This how I prefer them:

1. Royal Tenebaums
2. Grand Budapest Hotel
3. Rushmore
4. Moonrise Kingdom
5. Bottle Rocket
6. Life Aquatic
7. Fantastic Mr. Fox
8. Darjeeling Limited

I enjoy all of these movies, and there are some close calls when ranking them. I think what sets the top 3 on my list apart from the other 5 are the great central performances (Hackman, Fiennes, and Murray respectively). They really ground all the eccentric stuff people probably take issue with when it comes to Wes.

Cheers!

I just watched the CC blu-ray of 'Modern Times' for the first time. Damn, Paulette Goddard was gorgeous in it, and looked even better in HD.

Love Wes Anderson films. My opinion, favorite to least favorite:

Fantastic Mr. Fox
Moonrise Kingdom
The Darjeeling Limited
Life Aquatic
Grand Budapest Hotel
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
Bottle Rocket

I'm a big fan of all of his films. Grand Budapest Hotel is great and I hope that he gets an Oscar for it.

Although I did really like Fantastic Mr. Fox when it released, it has kinda lost its luster with me over the years. On the flip side, movies like Life Aquatic and Darjeeling have only grown on me after I disliked them at release. My rankings as of now would be:

Grand Budapest Hotel
Life Aquatic
Darjeeling Limited
Moonrise Kingdom
Rushmore
Royal Tenenbaums
Bottle Rocket
Fantastic Mr. Fox

Anyone else pickup the new Grand Budapest volume of Wes Anderson Collection by Matt Zoeller Seitz? I haven't cracked into it just yet but looking forward to it.
