Thinking about this after I read your post, and yeah, I only read them once... maybe one or two I have gone back to, but mostly once.

That then figures back into, is it cost worthy.... hmm. Wonder if this will have the same on the digipack releases.

I read so much I have them on display so I can access easier and quicker. I do love them.

Not even looked at the leaflets or tried to read them...

That's a great idea, I never thought about doing that. They are nice quality booklets.

Yeah My sister loves film so when she pops over (or any other guest who's interested) they can sit back and just enjoy as well

I wish they did more like Fantastic Fox and put lots of behind the scenes stuff like concept art, storyboards etc etc, would be ace.

That's cool too. I try to get my wife to read them when I introduce her to a new film. And I think I may finally get Fox during this Flash Sale.

In other Criterion morning news for me... sitting down now to watch Time Bandits! Let the joy begin!

OT - but kind of cool, wouldn't mind seeing a CC edn!

Distribpix Inc. discovers a hidden cinema treasure……

Quote:
Film enthusiast and archivist, Steven Morowitz, and veteran film director Joel Bender, unearth a rare and almost pristine 35mm print of Falstaff, Chimes at Midnight. This is one of the most important discoveries for us to date, at least regarding a mainstream film and one of such historical importance. Not that the film does not exist, and not that there are many experts already on the case, but from the bootleg versions and web clips available that we have seen over the years, it seems that the source material that people have been using is in very poor shape, and or put together from various prints. Maybe not doing proper film restorations or not having proper film elements has been the biggest obstacle for most, as we know that people have film elements. One thing is for sure and that is that the world wants a gorgeous and definitive release of Falstaff.
ps. Apologies to Andrew13, missed his post from yesterday!

So while the wife is at work, I've managed to watch Time Bandits and now I'm watching Safe. Switching to the few Best Picture films this year I've yet to see after this. Oh, and playing with my dog.

Wow, just watched 'A Citizen Above Suspicion' and thought it was a really cool movie, very Hitchcockian (which I loved). But the main reason I'm posting is about the transfer, Holy S**t! My parents got a 65 inch 4k so I brought a bunch of my Criterions home to see how much of a difference there would be and I was blown away. The amount of detail visible was astonishing, the colors and texture of the film were insane. So if anyone looking for a cool film and an amazing transfer I would definitely recommend this movie.

Thanks for your post and for the recommendation! That's one of the films on my short list of possibilities to pick up this coming week during the flash sale, and I'm now thinking it's moved up towards the top of the list!

Nice! I still have this in my "new, to be watched" pile. Maybe I'll move it up after I finish off the Oscar films.

And that's great about the 4K tv. I have a plasma that I LOVE, but keep wondering about this 4K thing. I've heard they are nice, and the motion blur is not bad, but have also been told only thing that beats plasma is OLED. However, I do know that in some aspects, it's a preference thing.

Chimes at Midnight on bluray/restored is easily in my top 5 most wanted blu-rays of all time. I can't put into words how badly I want it. I'd absolutely love if Criterion managed to do it and do it well.

Surely there has been some work on it by someone? Does anyone know?

My only fault is if like to have seen more stuff explored, like the guy walks weird, he seemed fascinating and almost like an alien - so woulda been cool to learn more about him!

Yea I'm sure there will always be debate regarding the best TV, but I have absolutely no complaints about the 4k. Even motion blur, I turned off the auto motion stuff and haven't noticed any issues. But the pictire quality is outstanding, I'm not an expert so I'm sure there are better TVs but I am completely satisfied with this one. Also they have the best bluray player, that upscales to 4k and though I know it's not true 4k it looks amazing, way better than my Lcd (which was top of the line when I bought it)

DVDBeaver's description in their review of Cries and Whispers says it's a liner notes "booklet" of an "essay". Confusing, but probably a leaflet as you say.

Thanks, that's all good to hear. Depending on prices, I may upgrade late this year... just to make sure I can still get a plasma in case I go that direction. I really love my Panasonic, I wish they still made them.
