It's really quite wonderful. On those days when I'd rather just sleep an extra hour in the morning or go straight to the sofa after returning from work, I see that Tippi Hedren photo on my wall, I put on my running shoes, and I'm out the door for a few miles.
The people on Facebook can keep their motivational exercise memes. The Tippi Hedren autograph works for me. My next goal is to get an autographed Monica Vitti photo that says, "To Jason... Keep saving money!" |

It's a strange scene. The crowd stares dispassionately, not responding to anything - including the music and each other - until Beck throws his trashed guitar into the crowd and they all go crazy. |

Wow, Owl, that IS neat Tippi's an impressive lady, too.
Blowup is as much a historically significant film as it is a good film. You sorta had to be there. Not to sound pedantic, but I've been watching this series on Netflix called THE STORY OF FILM: A JOURNEY ... I don't know the background of this series, but its one of the best I've seen in a long while. For those who are not familiar with some of these 1950s, 1960s, 1970s films by "the masters," it would be a good primer on why they are notable, why Criterion has chosen their films. ... The series is also darned entertaining, at least to me. |

The Friends of Eddie Coyle Blu-ray REVIEW
![]() The film: There isn't much that can be said that hasn't already been said. This film is indeed one of the best from the '70s. Terrific style and great performance by Robert Mitchum (quite possibly his best). The presentation: The transfer comes from a pre-existing master, but the film looks good. It looks a bit dated, but there are no traces of recent distracting enhancements (degraining/sharpening). My score is 3.75/5.00. Definitely recommended. ![]() ![]() ![]() On a side note, I would like to encourage you to pick up this release (see below). Really, really good documentary about Boston's underworld and one of its biggest stars. ![]() Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 04-06-2015 at 12:34 AM. |

I'm glad my rant about masterpieces was good for some thoughtful posts.
Again, I believe it's singular. Directors like Kurosawa or Bergman, for example, left us with a lot of great movies, but each may only have 1 best film/masterpiece. That's up to you to decide which are their bests. I understand believing in this definition means any director, good or bad, may have his/her masterpiece or best work. That's why Tommy Wiseau was born. |

Have we ever figured out why there is no Hou Hsiao Hsien in the collection? Some weird rights issues? |

I added the following to my collection today with Movie Trading Company's buy 2 get 1 free Easter sale
![]() ![]() ![]() I noticed that Slacker and Blow Out both say they include an "extra" film, It's Impossible to Learn to Plow By Reading Books and Murder a la Mod, respectively. Has anybody watched these and can comment? are they full feature length films in 1080p? |

I came across a used copy of Yojimbo yesterday, so I decided to finally upgrade my DVD. After I bought a defective copy of The Seventh Seal a few weeks back, I've started checking for bronzing and looking at the IFPI numbers on most of the used Criterion discs I buy now. I didn't see any bronzing on this one, but I saw that it had a Sonopress IFPI number (LB42). Has anyone had any problems with disc degradation on Yojimbo?

To think that the guy who made the Before Trilogy, Boyhood, and Dazed and Confused made something like Slacker. Yuck. |
