Looking forward to it, though, because other than one viewing of La Dolce Vita ages ago, I haven't seen anything from Fellini.

is JotS any good?
I've seen it once, on the big screen at a Fellini retrospective, and I enjoyed it, especially the performance of Giulietta Masina. I would like to see it again. It's a very rich, nuanced film, and I'm sure a second viewing would increase my appreciation.

Even though it's a character story at heart (and a brilliant one at that), it has digressions of visual surrealism.
I saw a double bill of Juliet of the Spirits and Black Orpheus in the theater back in the late '70s-early '80s and I went in ice cold to both films. Filmwise, it was life-changing. I was dazzled by both films and it started my serious interest in foreign films. I'm grateful to a film loving friend of mine who talked me into going with him to see these and it was his enthusiasm for directors like Fellini and Bergman that led me to expand my cinema interests.

I can't wait to revisit Pather in HD. Imagining Durga skipping along the bamboo grove, the rain and train sequences in Blu Ray has me so excited. Last time I saw it was on a poor video transfer.

Not a bad idea, but there is a security guard at this desk. Not sure he'll be too pleased with some unknown punk walking in haha.

Just be honest and open and explain you want to see the facilities and speak to some of the staff as you are interested in this stuff if he say son, just ask if he can check with one of the bosses up stairs :P

Or give them a ring

Rewatched Black Narcissus tonight and did a complete 180. Fabulous film with some of the most impressive technicolor of all-time.

8 1/2 was the first film of his I saw. Loved it on first viewing, and still my favorite of his films.

I do not like Amarcord or Roma.

Cannot wait for The Apu Trilogy - it will be great to see them fully restored at last. Hopefully Devi and Teen Kanya aren't far behind as well.

Juliet of the Spirits was my first Fellini. My next was Casanova, in the cinema. I thought that was wonderful, and still do, with a great performance by Donald Sutherland. The French bluray of it is stunning. I think it might be Fellini's last really great movie.

Such an amazing and stunning film. I had the pleasure of viewing it on the big screen last year with an intro from Thelma Schoonmaker and it was even more jaw-dropping. It is a shame that we cannot have technicolor films anymore, there is something magical about those colors (I am about to watch The River tonight). Haven't watched the special features on the Criterion but it was neat to hear Thelma talk about how with this film, Powell had conducted the music first and fit the scenes to the score. He also filmed the whole movie at the same location so all of the coloring/ temperature would be the same.

Oh wow, would I love to be able to see that on the screen. It truly is such a gorgeous film.

And yeah, Technicolor really was something.
