You are welcome, Vinyl. Yes, they look nice

Also, here are two photos for the upcoming Fassbinder release. I have not viewed it yet, but I will tonight and post the review.

I know director's intentions and stuff are important, but even I who very heartily enjoyed a viewing of Cleopatra this afternoon think that The Idiot is far too long as is, and the extra hour-plus originally in it must have furthered that greatly.

I bought Every Man for Himself for $20 at Costco earlier on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing this one. It's rare I make blind-buys but I was feeling impulsive. Hope this was a good decision (I am torn about Godard's films but I'm intrigued that this is more of a "commercial" film).

Is anyone here familiar with the other films of the Dardenne Brothers? i really like everything i have seen, specially The Kid with a Bike and Two Days One Night, the others being Rosetta and La Promesse.

The reason i ask is i was planning on renting Lorna's Silence and L'enfant from amazon, but there are already many older films i want to see, so not sure if these ones would be as good as the other ones I've seen.

My favorite of theirs is Le fils.

Can't say I'm surprised, but I had a glimmer of hope still.

No, they couldn't have. Amazon never had any on hand to ship out. What's surprising is that they're still sending out cancellation notices. Most of us received them a month ago.

Hausu . It's a cat, but who knows, maybe it is a clue for MBD too considering whose kid it is..

Default Chabrol

I saw Chabrol’s first film Le Beau Serge over the weekend and enjoyed it quite a bit. Considering the number of collections on this site that include either this one or Les Cousins, I’m not holding my breath for anything else by Chabrol in the Criterion Collection. That’s a shame because the films I’ve seen from him have ranged from good to great. I know he has some late career stinkers. He’s not the only one.

I thought Le Beau Serge was surprisingly good, and don't know why it isn't more famous or on more people radar's considering that along with Les Cousins, those are some of the first French new wave films, seems Godard and Truffaut get all the credit.

About the number of collections, while i am sure Criterion takes note of that, i don't think it we can completely dismiss more titles by the same director because of sales alone.

Look for the numbers of the Satyajit Ray and Dardenne brothers releases, those are two we already know that there's more titles coming.

I'm wondering why Hitchcock never filmed any of Eric Ambler's novels? (Ambler did write a teleplay for AH Presents). Ambler was married to Joan Harrison, once a secretary for Hitchcock.

Hitchcock and Ambler would've made for a great collaboration.

Someone asked the other day if Criterion would make their new titles announcement on the 15th even if it was a Friday. The last two times this happened was in August 2014 and November 2013, and both had their announcements released on the 15th.

Le Beau Serge also contains one of the most enjoyable supplemental features I've seen thus far - that is, the 50 minute return to the town where the film was shot. Chabrol (still alive at the time; doc was shot in 2003) shares some interesting stories about how his script came to be and about the camaraderie between himself, Truffaut, Rivette, and Phillipe de Broca who served as assistant director on the film.

Pedro, I'm hopeful that you're right - that there isn't much correlation between numbers on this site and future re-appearances in the CC. For films released 4 years ago, the numbers for the two Chabrol films are really low.

Chabrol's Le Boucher is still one of my favorite new films (new for me, of course) that I've seen since posting on this site.

November was also my guess, and it's a fitting box set to end the year.

This week I'm finally going to delve into the Blu-Ray of On the Waterfront. The disc is loaded with features and the film is so important that it begs to be explored from many different perspectives. I look forward to seeing it again.
