A Criterion of "Going Overboard" would be the holy grail as far as I'm concerned. An early glimpse into the mind of a genius. Somewhat akin to what "Un Chien Andalou" was for Bunuel or what "Killer's Kiss" was for Kubrick.

I am sad -- or, actually proud -- to say I've never seen it.

Default Criterion Summer films Suggestions

Could anyone suggest any summer films in the collection up to 1995 except for these:

Il Sorpasso
3 Bergman summer films
L'avventura

2 Tati summer films

I searched with keyword "summer" in synopsis and filtered by "Criterion", but maybe I have missed something..

By the way, I was thinking yesterday that I'd love to see what Criterion would do with The Swimming Pool (I know about the European releases).
It's not a movie I love overall and can't do without, but I really loved the summer atmosphere and the 2 radiant stars, Schneider and Delon.

Le Deuxième Souffle coming to Criterion iTunes Channel.

http://blog.criterioncast.com/post/1...itunes-channel

Le Samourai was also announced a few weeks back. This probably means more Melville coming to the collection soonish.

I am looking for any opinions on Gates of Heaven as a blind buy. I noticed there was no review for the release yet.

That would make me so happy. What is the average time between hitting iTunes/Hulu and a physical release? Like December maybe or would that probably be too soon.

Purple Noon and People on Sunday both come to mind. I would have never really thought of either as 'summer movies' but they both revolve around summer-y activities.

Oh, right I forgot about Purple Noon.
Of course I have seen it!
I checked People on Sunday, but I'm not sure it would be something that appeals to me..
There is Summertime too, that I'm waiting for a Bluray upgrade. I LOVE this film!
And Magnificent Obsession.

I really took to People on Sunday. It's very simple, there's virtually no plot and everything going on is fairly mundane (picnicking, swimming, getting out of the city for the weekend, boys and girls being boys and girls )but the connection I felt with the time, the place and the people was really powerful. And the connections with the people was all the more impressive because none of them were actors.

I can't really explain it but I really liked it a lot.

Based on my memory, Watership Down was at least 6 months from the channel to the physical release, but there's no real good answer. Some other titles have hit the channel after being announced and before release date. Others stayed there awhile. I think that Breaker Morant has been there a long time.

There is -

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gate-.../64059/#Review

It's a great film and a fairly unique one, in terms of it's place within the collection (I can't name a film that looks the way this does). I've got the MoC edition but don't think there's any real difference between the two editions, bar the MoC one carrying a higher bitrate and a better booklet (which includes an excellent piece by Carl Th. Dreyer).

Lunar1989 was talking about the more recently released Gates of Heaven, which I assume combines the plot of both Gate of Hell and Days of Heaven, with some elements of Heaven's Gate thrown in.

Oops!

Either way I'd still recommend Gate Of Hell!

Dazed and Confused and Do The Right Thing. The latter's only available on DVD though.

I havent watched Vernon, Florida yet. Being born & raised in Tampa & Miami I know there are definatly some crazies here but I dont need to actively search them out lol

However Gates Of Heaven is one of the most fascinating docs I have ever seen. Being a dog person I could identify a lot with these people esp the older woman in the orange tank top that gives her opinions on dog/people heaven, honest to god she almost made me cry. I had just recently lost a pet at that time though so that could have been the reason lol anyway definitely pick it up because once you start watching it you can not stop.
