I'd go with Throne of Blood, but recommend Sword of Doom if you don't have it. Even though its not Kurosawa

Speaking of which Criterion needs to release a lot more Japanese films like Kill!,Kwaiden or Samurai rebellion. Not to mention quite a few Kurosawa films I'd love to see on Blu like Red Beard, The Bad Sleep Well, Ikiru etc. Wish they would get the rights back to Ran and release a better version then Studiocanal did. Really hate that company took away so many rights and released a couple of films in NA then bailed.

I have had the DVD for 10 years or so. it is well worth your time, IMO, but I have not revisited the film during that time.

I liked Vernon, FL, would recommend watching the extras first, especially where Morris discusses the background on why he changed his theme.
Gates of Heaven, not so much for me. Might be I'm not as interested in pets. I actually wondered why he chose the subject but Morris mentions in one of the extras he has many ideas and loves to film them, he never runs out of topics he would like to film.
I think they provide background on his career. If you have his other films and are looking to know more; you might enjoy them. Not where I would start if I was buying my first Errol Morris.

GoH has very little to do with pets and everything to do with the people who own and operate the pet cemetery.

Criterion posted this photo on Instagram yesterday of Wim Wenders and Samuel Fuller. I wonder if this means that The State of Things will be released on Blu-ray.

Ran needs a Criterion release. I've put off buying the SC release for a while, but I'll probably cave and buy it soon, since CC getting the rights back probably won't happen anytime soon.

Could also be for A Fuller Life. Samantha Fuller's name was recently added to Criterion

Edit: I definitely think it is, if you look at the envelope it says "Chrisam films". (Named for Fuller's wife and daughter). That studio put out A Fuller Life, and not much else. Wim Wenders is also part of the doc.

I have both the SC blu and the Criterion dvd. If I recall, not all the Criterion extras made it to the SC release (although they both have AK which is the big one)

Fuller also has a bit part in Wenders' The American Friend, another supposed forthcoming release. No losers here.

I have 2 copies of CC's Ran that I'm willing to part with if anyone is interested. One I would classify as 'very good' $40 shipped. The other is gem mint - case, discs, etc. $45 shipped.

Or The American Friend. Wenders said in an interview recently that Criterion were planning to release it.

I don't know if you've see A Fuller Life but it feels more like a supplement than a stand alone title to me.

Beat me to it! That photo would look great in a booklet or an on disc gallery.

Yeah, I agree about it being more of an extra on a release than a standalone.

Criterion could possibly scan it to use as a static image for a supplement. An interview with Wenders, say.

By the way, I was thinking yesterday that I'd love to see what Criterion would do with The Swimming Pool (I know about the European releases).
It's not a movie I love overall and can't do without, but I really loved the summer atmosphere and the 2 radiant stars, Schneider and Delon.
Picnic At Hanging Rock is one of my favorite films for a summer day.

Luckily its Australian February!
Speaking of good aussie cinema for summer, Walkabout is another good one.

I wish Room with a View was released this July, because I consider it as a summer film too!
