Well, the leading male vampire in Only Lovers Left Alive is a musician ... who eats blood popsicles ... so that ties together nicely. And the film is about what happens when a younger sibling vampire disrupts the relationship of an established couple, which (if you s-t-r-e-t-c-h it a bit) could be about someone crowding in where they're not welcome ("No / Vacancy").

The fact that the film is directed by Jim Jarmusch (a Criterion favorite) and played at several prestigious festivals where it was warmly received and copped some awards, leads me to think that ... despite the current blu-ray release ... aes3728 probably got it right.

Of course, if Criterion were to play nicely, they'd give us Only Lovers Left Alive and Vampyr in the same month ...

One thing I have noticed is the popsicles in that movie don't really look like the one being shown here. They appear to be singular, rather double ones. Also, I just don't understand the whole Hotel sign angle, and how that would relate to Only Lovers Left Alive.

There is nothing about LTROI that I find worthy of praise, but that is just me.

I have seen The Brood and I think it's Cronenberg's best film, but then again, I don't really like him.

I watched The Black Stallion tonight and I liked it a lot more than I had thought I would because I am not particularly fond of horse racing.

The film would have been a guaranteed buy for me if the story remained on the island for the entire duration as it contained some incredibly beautiful cinematography and serenity. Sadly, those scenes did not last forever.

I have just checked my loyalty balance and noticed a discrepancy of 10 points.

I am not sure if they only award points for whole $ spending (I.E an order of $50) or if they do count up all your change (I.E an order of $67.87). Even when I count only the whole dollars it is 8 points short. I know that is not a lot but if you are only ordering a max of 5-6 films a year that target of 500 is even further away.

Anyone else ever noticed their balance being incorrect?

[Show spoiler]The plot was completely unbelievable. A company would never pit it's workers against another worker. This is the film's way of trying to manipulate your emotions by way of a silly plot device. Aside from that, the film only has two scenes. One is a scene where a worker says "I need my bonus" and another is where a worker decides to support her. Repeat this for 90 minutes. This film is also the victim of the modern handheld curse where the entire movie is shot handheld. Will this ever go away? I'm tired of it. I also didn't care for the anti-capitalist message on display here. Too much "realist". Too much "naturalist". Not enough cinema. Not enough style.

Completely agree, the entire thing just felt awkward. I get the Dardennes are known for their realistic approach, but to me it made everything seem emotionless and cold.
