No, the foolish ones are those who will pay those outrageous prices.

"most similar to The French Connection in that it is a “gritty” crime drama."

Which do you think is better?

Friends of Eddie Coyle...or French Connection?

I'm still holding out for After Hours. Please Criterion, make it so.

You may not have seen them, but I just checked, and they're still there, listed for $50.00 each! And no ... they are not Out-Of-Print titles.

Yi Yi is a complete masterpiece. It's just 3 hours of a family's life though, so be aware of what you're getting into.

oh, didn't know about this film and just checked the trailer.
it looks very interesting.
Especially when I saw a critic saying "you will feel better about being alive"..
I have kind of "lost" this feeling..

Oh, I'd be interested to know too.
I LOVE French Connection, but I haven't seen Eddie Coyle.
(I don't like though Mitchum very much)

All I want tomorrow is a boxset. Unless you could Shawn/Gregory, we haven't had one all year. We have Apu in November, but it seems like we should get two every year.

I'd be ecstatic with either of the following:

Koker Trilogy
Road Trilogy
War Trilogy
Before Trilogy
Chamber Trilogy (Bergman)
Teshigahara Trilogy

It won't be One Two Three. The rights to that one are supposedly with Shout Factory.

Good news, Universal is working on a 4K restoration of My Man Godfrey. Very likely to see a Criterion upgrade of that next year.

I picked up these today:

I've wanted to add Sundays and Cybèle, Autumn Sonata, and The Great Dictator to my collection for awhile, so I'm glad I've finally got them. I've never seen The Bridge or Here Is Your Life, but I've heard great things about both, so I decided to take a chance. I'll probably get a few more titles near the end of the sale, or when payday comes (this Friday). I'm definitely getting Hiroshima mon amour, but I might also get Belle de jour and/or David Lean Directs Noël Coward.

I was thinking the same thing. Also getting 4K restorations from Universal are The King of Jazz and Shanghai Express. Which also seem Criterion likely.

So far during the B&N sale, I've picked up Crumb and In the Mood for Love and neither of them disappointed - what great films!

I own both and I would say I like Friends of Eddie Coyle more....

While I'm a fan of Michael Mann, Eddie Coyle still rates about Thief.

PS: Thief's soundtrack is better.....Tangerine Dream is great!!

I hope we get the 2nd volume of the World Cinema Foundation restorations or a Oshima boxset of his ATG films.
