I'm in the minority and I probably said this before, but I am one of the few people really jazzed about this film. The poster actually makes me more excited. Sure, it could be terrible. But it's at least different and unique.

I wouldn't say I'm excited but I'm definitely intrigued.

You aren't the only one. I've already seen the film & I'd buy a CC BD Fay 1.

If you've seen Grey Gardens, you have to see this. Hader captures Little Edie almost to a tee. I'm tempted to watch them back to back to see if it's a complete recreation, but I think it might be.

Bill Hader is my favorite cinephile. Armisen is pretty cool too.

I find Criterion's poster selection really underwhelming. I mean, all these great designs and that's all?!?! I'd kill for a poster of the Repo Man artwork.

A pre-cast shout out to iScottie. We're doing a podcast in the morning about all the rumored/confirmed titles and he was generous to lend me his master file, which I've researched and added to. The total is about 40 confirmed and 50 rumored, with some other groupings, so we're going through 100+ films. Might be a long show, but this is the kind of geeking out that I had in mind when I decided to do a podcast.

iScottie deserves praise for keeping track of everything. I've probably added maybe 20-30.

(edit: and as fate has it, iScottie posts right above me. Please give him some thanks lovin',)

I saw People on Sunday. It was quite a charming time capsule, capturing a weekend in Berlin in 1930. There is a loose story about a double-date lakeside outing with a bittersweet shift of relationships (using non-professional actors), and that's done with nice understatement, but the film is more effective as a look at the popular culture of a particular time and place, with several long stretches of documentary style capturing of weekend scenes. at around 75 min it is quite easily re-watchable too. It's also interesting as an early effort by German movie-makers that would go on to make their individual names in Hollywood, including Billy Wilder, Robert Siodmak and Edgar Ulmer.

The blu-ray transfer is pretty good considering the limitations of the source material that has been cobbled together from multiple prints to get the (so far) longest running version of the film. Also saw the interesting 2006 retrospective documentary that manages to get interviews with one of the actresses in the film and writer Kurt Siodmak, and also Martin Koerber who shares information about the restoration of the film.

Edit: D-oh, but I just noticed how "ON" is made part of the title on the cover. That's a nice touch!

What's annoying is they make massive posters for their office of many releases - the office looks amazing and as do the posters. Such a shame. I'd spend a fortune on posters of they sold more.

You're complaining that they're saving you a fortune?

His Criterion closet video is great. I about lost it when he started talking about "the greatest date movie on Earth".

Mondo released 170 copies of it a few years ago in amazing quality. I have a copy of it framed on my wall. Keep an eye out for it on eBay.

Edit: added pics of it (even if they are tiny for some reason)

Thanks!

Yeah TCM often seems to air Criterion releases after they are released. I never understood that. Even though I am a huge fan of Apu and would recommend it to anyone, some find it challenging. Could check it out on TCM. The only problem is by the time it airs, the B&N sale will be over in case you fall in love and want to buy it (which is a good possibility).
