Yes, I won't be buying this title until they either reissue it in a Scanovo case or make a Scanovo case and professionally printed artwork available through the Criterion store. Unless I'm mistaken, this will be the only Criterion title that is still available only in one of those flimsy, thin digipaks ... I've gone through a lot of trouble and expense to acquire the Scanovo cases for The Third Man, Chungking Express, Last Year at Marienbad, The Man Who Fell to Earth, El Norte, The Last Metro, etc. , and frankly, I'm disappointed that Criterion has chosen to go this route again.

That's one thing I cannot tell from the screenshots is whether it is a thin digi like the ones you mentioned, or a fatter one like On the Waterfront, The Leopard and many others. If it is one of the thin cases, then I think we're almost assured of getting replacement cases here:

https://www.criterion.com/shop/other

I haven't bought my replacement case for the thin digis yet, waiting on my next gift card, but I'll eventually buy for all of them.

I bet it's mainly due to artwork why it's a digipak. They probably wanted the inside artwork to be highlighted more than it would have in a standard case. I'm positive this will be a beautiful package.

I think the digipak for Moonrise Kingdom is absolutely beautiful. I don't need my collection to be uniformly Scanovo cases; variety is nice.

I'm super excited for this release, even though I have the previous Universal disc.

And what about those of us that love the digipak releases and are tired of them releasing them in plastic cases that break so easily?

You could argue to people who hate digipacks cause of the damage can pay $5 to get replacement artwork.

I think you're mistaken. All the examples you've given are of the "original 9" blu-rays, and I don't think they'll ever use that packaging again. They certainly aren't in this instance.

Excited for this release, but disappointed that it's a didipak.

I like that Criterion is doing a digipack. This year has been nothing but cases. Time to change things up a little.

I just finished watching my Criterion Blu-ray of Hiroshima Mon Amour.

I first saw Hiroshima Mon Amour on DVD years ago, and the film, which is about how our past experiences mold us into the people we are now, made its mark on me. I loved its offbeat melancholic air that uses the city of Hiroshima as a backdrop for characters who expect to forget each other, but will likely never forget each other.

The Blu-ray transfer looks beautiful, and I am glad that I now have a better television with which to enjoy it. The flashback sequences in Nevers are my favorite moments from a visual appreciation level. The brilliant use of music comes across well on the audio front.

Hiroshima Mon Amour is a pretty straightforward film, and it is not nearly as labyrinthian as the 1961 Resnais feature, Last Year at Marienbad. Upon closer inspection, though, it's a quietly multi-layered film.

Revisiting Hiroshima Mon Amour makes me want to watch Lost in Translation again as well.

Finally another digipak, there is still hope for the Mulholland Dr. Release, if it is a digipak I will forgive them for not including tons of extras

Going to the Wenders retrospective tomorrow.

Absolutely seeing Until the End of the World, but depending how zoned out I am afterwards I am toying with see The American Friend and Kings of the Road (moreso for Kings, but I didn't make the schedule sadly. . .)

Two glaring omissions though from the lineup: The Wrong Move (completing the Road Trilogy) and Don't Come Knocking (a film I really like though wouldn't consider a "major work" from Wenders, but is does stand as an interesting companion piece with Paris, Texas given the Shepard connection). Does anybody know why these two aren't included in this?

Also, does Janus have some kind of rights for Pina and The Salt of the Earth now given their inclusion?

Agreed. Just wish it was for a better and more important film.

I with you 100%. I ended up paying around $25 more off eBay to get Marienbad and about $35 more to get The Man Who Fell in a plastic cases. Plus I bought the plastic case for Metro off Criterion. As soon as any of the other digi's become plastic I will be getting them as well. Hopefully CriterionBlues is correct and we can expect replacement cases soon.

Still buying Moonrise either way (Huge Anderson fan) but just strongly dislike (my mom said never to HATE lol) digis.

Isn't the plastic replacement cases for sale a fairly rare occurrence? Aside from the first 9, have they done it for anything aside from 400 Blows and Night of The Hunter?

What are you doing with your cases that they break easily? I'm with the others who much prefer plastic cases & will pay extra for them. Digipaks are prone to more wear & tear they plastic cases. Also I think the plastic look better on the shelf. Only digipaks I have are ones I have no other choice with.

Paper damages much easier than plastic. If your cases break "so easily", I'd say you're doing it wrong, lol.
