Isn't December traditionally quite a quiet month for Criterion? Last year we had Safe alongside upgrades of Time Bandits and The Night Porter, and the Kinoshita Eclipse set.

Criterion were a different company then. In the early days of dvd, they were still trying to play the game like they did in the laserdisc days. As time went on they realized that wasn't viable so they became more specialist.

Roadhouse on Criterion would be good for a laugh though

Well, i have a hunch that Armageddon (of the old days of Criterion) is better than Jellyfish Eyes (of the new days of Criterion)!

To change the subject slightly from announcement discussion, I thought I'd just give a mention to a museum dedicated to a Criterion favorite. I was in Vienna for a few days and couldn't pass up going to anything related to The Third Man. Just the very idea of a museum dedicated to one specific film was bizarre to me, and I was worried it would just be some dinky little joint with a few posters. Oh my, was I wrong. This place had everything you could imagine, from the original scripts to the actual Zither that was used for the score. They also had a two minute film print from its release, which was screened.

If you ever find yourself in Vienna and have some time to kill, I'd strongly recommend you stop by.

Traditionally, yes. I'm inclined to think another box set is coming. We've only had one this year with Apu Trilogy. Only candidates I can think of is WCP vol.2 which would be pretty darn great and War Trilogy upgrade.

I wonder the same thing. I didn't enjoy it as much as his previous 2 films personally.

Fox Searchlight will release it on BD first before Criterion does and that's if they do.

I actually saw it in school, that was quite an experience.

When does Criterion usually announce their new titles?

Holding off on a large UK order of films. Really prefer to get region A films when I can. Among my order is the new 4K Tales of Hoffman with the cut content put back into the film (really excited about seeing it) and a few other things that have been mentioned here like Lady Snowblood and the Dreyer Boxset.

I've seen Lady Snowblood mentioned a lot in forums is this just a guess or is there more solid info on a Criterion release.

We usually know by 11pm Paris time, so it should be announced in 6 hours.

Digging way back, but where did that rumor about a CC release for Lana del Rey's music videos come from? I'm not contesting, just curious. I'm not a fan of LDR but think a similar set for Lady Gaga would be great.

Criterion released Frances Ha so I'm hoping that they'll be the one to do a Mistress America Blu.

I am always tempted to go to Vienna mainly due to two reason, first The Living Daylights was filmed there, and its one of my favourite Bond movies, secondly; The Third Man And finally, I always dreamed I'll meet an interesting blonde French woman on a train and I'll spend the night.... in Baden Baden (No I'm simply to confortable to walk around Vienna for the whole night)

Very true, December is a very quiet month. If December follows the same pattern like it did last year, then this years releases were, for me, very disappointing. Only bought one new Criterion this year and that was Mulholland Drive. And I'm also really pissed off that Criterion didn't make much effort in getting the rights to Mike Hodges' Croupier

Still most of the December releases were reissues on blu-ray, than I'm hoping Polanski's Knife in the Water gets announced today. Although, I doubt this would happen since I believe Criterion might hold it off for next year due to the fact two Polanski titles were released last year.

Still my wish list is (like always)
The Tenant
Le Samourai
Knife in the Water
Andrej Wajda's War Trilogy Boxset (although I would be happy only with A Generation and Kanal, since I already own Arrow's release of Ashes & Diamonds)
The Passanger

if that were to happen, I'd have to have a serious re-evaluation of my level of support for Criterion.

As much as in looking forward to Sils Maria, I think mid 2016 is the earliest we'll see that.

Here's the evidence. 100% real. It just hasn't been announced for BD yet, but there was kind of a clue on the last New Year's card.

Funny you should say that. I spotted this on the Prater.
