I have passed on countless copies on eBay because they were way too high. I got this for $400 shipped which I thought was a fantastic price. Other people are trying to sell theirs for $600-800 opened and $1000 unopened.

$400 on a box set...that's a big commitment.

I don't think I could pull the trigger myself.

And I'm a big kurosawa fan.

...you have my respect sir.

Doubly glad I didn't bite on the TCM release of Only Angels Have Wings. Generally not a fan of Cary Grant in a dramatic role, but Howard Hawks and Jean Arthur? I'm in.

$16/disc isn't too bad, especially once you factor in the book/packaging.

Do you have/will you get the other 5 Kurosawas to complete the collection?

There's one copy of it for sale on Amazon...for $2500.

So I guess he got a pretty good deal.

Who on God's earth would pay $2500 for that?

Any chance Criterion could release Ken Russel's The Devils?

Watched it last week for the first time and thought it was a fantastic film and certainly deserving of a Criterion edition.

Maybe they could release it with a copy the book it is based on, Aldous Huxley's The Devils of Loudun.

Yes, I have the rest. Although technically these titles do not have spine numbers, so I'm debating whether or not I actually have holes in my collection. Not sure if I should get the individual titles or call it good. It's an OCD thang.

I've got the TCM Blu-ray of Only Angels Have Wings. It's in my still-unwatched stack. I guess that I'd better get cracking on watching it.

I'm with CriterionBlues on this one with it being An Angel at My Table, especially being that this is available on Criterion DVD. So it would make sense this would be a blu-ray upgrade.

But have the newsletters only shown "new" releases or have they also shown "upgrades" too?

Yes, is this statement true?

Here's the DVD edition:

Man, even the book from the set has gotten expensive. I bought it for $25 last year.

Also, if you want to drop another $400 on Kurosawa, this is the way to go.

Actually, my first thought on this was It's a Wonderful Life. You know, "every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings."

Never say never but no, the chances of this are slim to say the least. Conventional wisdom says Warner would just as soon pretend The Devils never happened and even if they were inclined to let it see the light of day they don't license things out very frequently.

As much as I'd love to see It's a Wonderful Life, undoubtedly one of the greatest films of all-time, enter The Criterion Collection, I don't see it happening. The lack of a bell in the picture makes me even more skeptical.

I also don't see it being Only Angels Have Wings because TCM has released it on Blu-ray already.

I said that was my first thought. The TCM release of Only Angels Have Wings was limited edition and now OOP, so a Criterion release could be very possible, if not likely.

Are we 100% sure those angels aren't eating beans?
