Hope this is a new 4K remaster because in the previous Blurays there was a lot of room for improvement!
I saw it on Twitter initially (BFI is a pretty good follow), but yeah, there is some discussion in the BFI thread as well.

Speaking of BFI, most if not all of their Ozu releases are selling for about £7 right now on AmazonUK, including some of his films that are dvd only through Criterion.

Picked up Body Double and Moonrise Kingdom Blu-rays at Costco for $19.99 each. Most happy!

Those BFI Ozu blus are good, but the transfers are rather dated. I'd advise people to order the Japanese 4K remastered blus. They are well worth the price.

For sure, although for a few (Early Summer, The Only Son, There was a Father) I think BFI is the only English friendly blu option.

That's true. But I can guarantee that an Early Summer 4K blu is coming. It's the last *major* (in regards to being well known) film of his that Shochiku has to release on Blu Ray.

Ozu was surpassed, about 1975, in "Jeanne Dielman, 23 ...," which is available on Criterion DVD.

Not sure if anyone saw this, but the replacement case for Last Year at Marienbad sold in an insane bidding war for $61 yesterday. Keep in mind, it was just for the replacement case. I'm afraid I'll never got my hands on it haha http://www.ebay.com/itm/LAST-YEAR-AT...p2047675.l2557

Now that the World Series is over (Congrats to WonderWeasel's Kansas City Royals - the best team won. ) and we had to set the clocks back an hour, it is time to usher in movie watching (and buying!) season.

Looking forward to some great Satyajit Ray, Ozu, and Truffaut that I have yet to see and I'm sure I'll find another director to put on my Mount Rushmore even if it is only temporary.

My 'to buy' list is pretty stacked right now, so I'm all in for the B&N sale, too.

Gaspar Noé stopped by the Criterion closet. Why am I not surprised by his choice?

Provocateur Gaspar Noe holding a copy of Salo? Wonder what else he picks out. Fat Girl perhaps?

Probably, as well as I Am Curious and In the Realm of the Senses.

I have only seen Irreversible.
I loved it when i first saw it (especially the ending with the music by Beethoven), but I'm not sure i could go through all that again...

Irreversible is nowhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Actually, now that I think about it, if Criterion has released such films as Antichrist and Fat Girl, I don't see why they shouldn't release a film of the same caliber, as well.

The rape scene is absolutely the most horrifying thing I've ever seen in a movie.

...and it's not even close.

I'm under the belief that Noe comes off as a 51-year-old man channeling the most immature version of his 13-year-old self. I just can't take his need for blunt shock value and neon haze seriously. From the interviews I've read, he seems like a man that comes up with a kernel of an idea and expands it in the most groan worthy way possible.
