Heads Up! FoxConnect.com is having a 50% off Flash Sale today only. Here's your chance to pick up the non-Criterion blu-ray releases of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and/or The Fantastic Mr. Fox for $5.00 each ($9.99 less 50%), or some bona fide classics like Laura and/or How Green Was My Valley for $6.50 apiece ($12.99 less 50%). The code, by the way, is PUMPKIN.

Of course this sale comes right in the middle of the semi-annual Barnes & Noble Criterion sale! That's what second mortgages are for! Have fun ...

I'm with you on that....loved that film. It's followed closely by The Straight Story. Mulholland is that rare, dirty dustbin throw away for me.

It's also a good way to stock up on the Fox Film Noir DVD titles at $5/per, if you're into that kind of thing.

I started watching this last night for the first time. Dialogue was a little quick to pick up with kids running around so I'll have to catch it in solitude. Great feel of what I watched. I don't think I have ever seen a Curtis movie and he is too cool for school.

I watched Sweet Smell Of Success last week, as part of Noirvember, and had a blast with it. J.J. Hunsecker is such a great character.

I had just discovered the email a few hours ago. Went crazy at first, but then weeded a bunch of stuff out. Ended up getting eight titles.

I'll tell you what, Little Children doesn't even have a blu-ray release, so it would seem some is sitting on the rights.

Having used that as an example, how well would it sell? Criterion is a business at the end of the day and their market is a very niche one.
"Little Children" would be a day one purchase for me, whether it's from Criterion or New Line/WB.

I had modest goals for this particular FoxConnect sale.

I bought The Black Swan (1942) for $7.99. Hurray for more Maureen O'Hara on Blu-ray!

Hunh. I wasn't even thinking about DVDs. I'm still missing one of the Fox Film Noir titles, Moontide. Actually, I'm also missing Boomerang!, but since I have that on Blu-ray in the first Kazan on Fox collection...

The eight titles I ordered included two Marilyn Monroe films that weren't in the Forever Marilyn set, Bus Stop and Niagara. Plus Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which is in the set, but my copy doesn't want to load (I got the set used, and took too long to start watching it to return it). Also Blood and Sand (to add to my Rita Hayworth on Blu collection). And three MGM titles I kept putting off getting: Manhattan, In the Heat of the Night, and The Thomas Crown Affair (the original). Last, but not least, a relatively recent indie SF movie, I Origins.

The dialogue is fantastic. It's one you'll want to watch again, maybe even with subtitles on. Huge fan of Sweet Smell, as evident from me being willing to take it on a desert island. Agree with Adam that Hunsecker is one of the most engaging characters in film, and it is among the most scathing portrayals of a real person since Citizen Kane.

I spent a ton during the last few FoxConnect 50% Off sales, so I'm stocked up on the classic older films on Blu-ray... Laura, The Apartment, Blood and Sand, the Marilyn Monroe films, All About Eve, the Elia Kazan box sets, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, etc.

It's a shame that Fox has slacked off on releasing the older stuff lately.

Twilight Time has picked up the slack with the Fox Film Noir series on Blu-ray, apparently, since House of Bamboo was recently released by them, and Where the Sidewalk Ends will be released in early 2016.

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the Zatoichi box set? It doesn't look too large or oddly shaped. Trying to make sure I have room.. or rather make room for the set.

Funnily enough I've just compared him to the "character" of Steve Jobs in my review of the Danny Boyle movie. It was interesting watching the two so close to one another.

I'm planning on picking up A Room With a View this month. I'm interested in the Merchant/Ivory films as I've seen a total of zero, thus far. As I mentioned, I just saw My Beautiful Laundrette and find it interesting that these two films opened up in the U.S. on the same day and showcase the acting range of Daniel Day Lewis.

I'm hoping that it isn't too sterile for me to make a connection with it. That was the word Pro-B used and I think I know the vibe that he is describing.
