I didn't know it off the top of my head, so I put it on youtube here at the office. It isn't too bad at all. ...and I would not call myself a U2 fan. youtube has now gone off and is giving me a mix of Lou Reed songs, so it can't be all that bad.

To be honest, I didn't even remember the U2 song. Yeah, it's not that bad, but then sharedpain4 didn't actually say it was bad, just that it was "less excellent" than the U2 song in Faraway, So Close!.

The only song that I remember from City of Angels is "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls, which got a lot of radio play at the time.

I'd never buy anything based solely on a brand. I have many Criterions because they often pick interesting, off-beat films to release in good quality transfers. Of course, they also release a lot of 'classic' films too.

Sure, other companies release foreign films and forgotten classics as well, but they are often all over the place in terms of actual selection and quality.

Ikiru, The Hidden Fortress and High and Low are probably my favorites, with Rashomon not far behind.
Good taste . The Hidden Fortress is my fav, followed by Seven Samurai, and then probably High and Low. They're all pretty great in my opinion. I'm hoping for at least Stray Dog next year, but I'd also be very happy to see The Bad Sleep Well, or even The Lower Depths set as well.

If we get a Kurosawa next year, I think it'll be RED BEARD (which I believe has a new/new-ish 4K master.)

If you have liked all the other movie you have seen with James Mason then I find it impossible that you will not like Odd Man Out.

When I saw the movie, I was switching between a state of utter concentration and a feeling of euphoric unease of that makes sense, I was so concentrated about the story but I was feeling so euphoric uneasy because the cinematography is out of this world I did not know where to look.

I felt like a man not feeling good enough to look at a beautiful woman.

Default Chinese Film

Criterion states, about "A Brighter Summer Day:"

"Among the most praised and sought-after titles in all contemporary film, this singular masterpiece of Taiwanese cinema, directed by Edward Yang, finally comes to home video in the United States. Set in the early sixties in Taiwan, A Brighter Summer Day is based on the true story of a crime that rocked the nation."[emphasis added]

Perhaps they should have written island rather than nation.

If Criterion's website goes down, we'll know why

Yeah, that's exactly right. I like If God Will Send His Angels just fine, but Stay (Faraway, So Close) is top 10 U2 for me.

that was the song I listened to. if there was a U2 song in the remake, I wasn't aware and didn't listen to it.

I love the music video for Stay (Faraway, So Close!), directed by Wim Wenders...it can be found on my U2 fan site (I've had for almost 19 years online now): U2Station.com .

I buy films that intrigue me. It just so happens that Criterion releases a lot of great, highly interesting films, so I've been buying more and more from their collection. Ultimately, it's a film's merits, and entertainment value, that dictate whether or not I purchase it.

I've come to really appreciate, and, in fact, prefer the kinds of movies they put out. There is a dearth of quality films coming out of Hollywood, so it was only natural that I looked for something else to fill the void. I've been working from the AFI 100 Greatest American Films lists, the Academy Award Best Picture winners and nominees, and more recently, the Sight and Sound Greatest Films of All-Time list. So far, I've not been disappointed by a single purchase I've made. Some grab me immediately, like Tokyo Story. Others don't blow me away on the first viewing, but I know that with repeate viewings, I'll better understand, and appreciate the nuances I might have missed the first time. I think of something like Some Like it Hot, which didn't floor me the first time I saw it. I was much younger, and hadn't acclimated myself to film styles prevalent in the Golden Era of Hollywood. Now, it's one of my all-time favorite comedies. I'm a huge fan of Billy Wilder and Marilyn Monroe both. Should Criterion ever release the film, that would be the one I'd purchase, and keep as the definitive edition.

I love U2. I watched their HBO special from Paris the night before last. Just an amazing show. They keep pushing the boundaries with their set design, and they sound as good as ever.

I really need to see them again.

Stray Dog would be fantastic! I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema about ten years ago and it has stayed with me ever since.

I've seen them 21 times, which when I type it out seems excessive. I wonder if jw has me beat though?

Still would love a Criterion Rattle and Hum.

Hard to tell just on the films quality, I think I like both his newer films a bit more than the older 2 in the collection, but in terms of releases they are all pretty good.

I would go with Two Days, One Night since it is stacked with extras and includes an early documentary directed by them.

There's nothing Norah Jones can't do. Every album and every side project is something different and great.
