Asked this in the UK Criterion thread but thought I'd ask here:
There was a point in late November when Amazon's Criterion titles massively dropped in price to around the £12 mark. Was this a knock-on effect from some US sale and is there liable to be something like this happening within the next few months? I've got my eye on a few titles (Red River, Seven Samurai, Brazil, Naked Lunch) |

That was Amazon seller All Your Music and it is likely they were responding to the B&N 50% off sale. They seem to only do these reductions when that sale happens, so unlikely to happen until the next one around the end of June. Until then its a fallow period for cheap Criterions - unless you're in the US where CostCo occasionally do offers, or there is a Criterion flash sale.

My dad's been visiting me for the last 5 days and we've watched a bunch of Criterions together. He's a pretty big movie fan, but his experience has been limited to mostly American films (he's 60 years old). We've checked out a bunch of foreign films and it's fun to watch him really geek out on a lot of these he's never seen. He's the one who really got me into movies, but it was mostly 90s stuff that we would see in the theaters every weekend. It's been really fun watching this stuff with my old man. I've been trying to show him a lot of my personal favorites. So far, we've watched:
8 1/2 The 400 Blows La Dolce Vita Nashville (He'd seen it on an old VHS copy) Sweet Smell of Success Thief My Dinner With Andre Rififi High and Low Days of Heaven Persona |

Has anyone seen Malick's Knight of Cups yet?
I see in the net there are webrips so i guess it is there in itunes or another digital service? Also, a German Bluray is coming in a week. I have seen all of Malick's films up to The Tree of Life, but i don't know, I can't bring myself watching the last two. And about the last one I don't see very good comments. Also the theme doesn't interest me, judging from the trailer. |

How about The Revenant? I haven't seen it, but it looks freaking sick. Hopefully Leo finally gets an Oscar.

Just finished Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy.
I had seen again Bleu and Rouge once 20 years ago. Trully masterpieces and I think they are essential for every serious movie library. I may not catch all the clues and layers and fully understand the symbolisms on these first viewings, but they affected me in a way I cannot explain. Blanc was my least favourite though. From the extras I watched the Kieslowski's lessons. How I would wish it was like this for the whole movie and not just comment on 1-2 scenes. |

None of the blu-ray editions seem to have stellar PQ and there is the one framing issue that people go on about, so I guess I just haven’t been in a hurry to see these films. I’ll see Seven Samurai this year… hopefully. I like Kurosawa, but feel like I might be more of an Ozu guy or maybe even Kobayashi. |
