Default Ex Machina:

I'm late with this one but did anyone here like Ex Machina? Why isn't this movie getting more praise I think we have a future cult classic... Boy that one gets dark and disturbing in the second half. A+ for Disco!

Off topic is anyone from the DC area here?

I absolutely loved it. I think it's one of the best sci-fi films of modern times, particularly because of how deep it is.

Its the Under The Skin for mainstream audiences :P

Wasn't too keen, much preferred UTS.

Ha! just found this:

Now after watching the vid above, I may revisit it - watched when I was tired so may have messed with my judgement?

Mine are much worse!

4-Tokyo Story
5-Rules of the Game (I do have this on blu ray though, so that'll be corrected soon)
13-Battleship Potemkin

Ex Machina was my favorite movie of 2015.

(...and that speaks volumes, since a James Bond 007 film also came out in 2015)

Ex Machina is a wonderfully cerebral science fiction film, but it's also a great neo-noir with a great twist on the femme fatale. There's not a lot of separation between Ex Machina and The Postman Always Rings Twice.

Incidentally, Under the Skin was my favorite 2014 film. I'm not sure what it says about me that these two were my favorites on back-to-back years.

I was born there and lived in suburban MD until I moved in '90.

I'm starting to get frustrated by the Criterion buy/sell/trade thread...so it's venting time.

I've been trying to sell off my like new copy of Repulsion for almost two months now, with no takers. I have it listed at $15 with shipping included...meaning they'd be paying about $13 for the film itself.

Today I noticed that a guy on the same thread recently sold his copy of Repulsion for $15, but shipping involves an additional charge of $2.25. He only recently put it up for sale.

Does the person who bought it not realize that he would've paid $2.25 less for my copy?

Does he not bother to read the fine print of the listings?

Does he not trust Ray Jackson?

Does he not consider Ray Jackson to be a reputable human being worthy of his respect and admiration?

Does my avatar not tell him everything he needs to know of who I am and what I'm about?

Does he think he's better than me?

Well whoever you are, I want you to know something: Ray Jackson's mama didn't raise no fool.

A drunken sex addict maybe...but no fool.

This won't be the end of me.

I'll die before I let that happen.

I'm going to live on and I'm going to survive.

And no matter what happens, I'm going to sell Repulsion and there's absolutely nothing that you can do about it.

A man embraces the beast in himself and he lessens the burden of being a man.

That video was cool. Definitely nice parallel between both movies. Both future scifi classics. Glad to read all the love for both. Hope 2016 brings more scifi goodness to the screen!
