And while we're on the subject of deserving upgrades, add Masaki Kobayashi's The Human Condition to the list.

It seems like the 15th of the month doesn't mean anything to Criterion anymore!

Unbreak my heart.

I would definitely love it if they did this.

Gravity Falls made a Dr. Strangelove reference today, I hope that means something.

He's Canadian. I have several Canadian friends. They winky face a lot when they can't find their beer. Or their touks. I was just playing it safe and being, you know, neighborly.

Just to name a few. Other films that have no Blu-ray release that are long overdue, like The Magnificent Ambersons, would be welcome additions.

Each time they release something individually that has already been issued as a larger set, it's an opportunity missed.
Agreed, I understand in order to upgrade a movie they probably tend to wait for new restoration's but still we know that several of their dvd only movies already have been restored, also on few occasions their upgrades use the same old master as dvd.

Could it be that their dvd market is so strong that they don't see much benefit in upgrading to blu-ray anymore? seems highly unlikely to me that they get more gains by rereleasing movies already on blu-ray, but who knows

The Magnficent Ambersons came out on DVD in that blu-ray set with Citizen Kane (I think it was an Amazon exclusive) some years ago. I don't think it ever did get its own separate release, so it would seem an obvious thing to release both on DVD and blu.

But of course, anything Orson Welles is an obvious thing to release on DVD and blu if you ask me...

It did get a separate release on DVD some time after that.

In that particular comparison the UK one of course. The grain is all smeared.
For what it's worth I couldn't spot a difference in the screw caps you posted either.

I got the uk disc prior to criterion announcing it and would have been perfectly content had Criterion not released it. It received 4.8 for video on here too. Alas, at least you've got the option to buy the cheap uk edition or the criterion box-set, it just depends how much you want to spend.

It's just had a Blu-ray release in Japan too, but reports don't look too good.

My pet beaver finds this post highly offensive. I had to wash away the taste it left with a whole pint of maple syrup.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a hockey game to attend.

If I could get an upgrade of Juliet of the Spirits that'd keep me happy for quite a while.

It is "touqe". And yeah, I will when I can't find beer, or when I'm having donuts at Tim Hortons. Now I need to go home and play hockey outside my igloo. I just need to prep my dog team for the journey home.

Mush!

Guess it is pretty certain announcement is today - weird they didn't do yesterday seeing as they were pretty much ready to go with it and were active on social media.

Opened my Mulholland Dr Blu Ray yesterday and while it looks perfect it doesn't playback correctly on 2 different players.

Contacted Criterion via email... wish me luck getting a replacement.

(also heads up to peeps keeping Criterions sealed for value... they may not play....D'oh!)

First of all, I'm sorry you're going through that. Nothing will take the fun out of opening up a new movie like technical issues. I've been battling issues with my Taxi Driver Blu-ray for the last week. Whenever I try to access the scene selection feature, or specific special features, the whole Blu-ray player freezes on me, and I have to stop the disc, and start it again. I have the latest firmware, and turning off internet features, and even resetting to factory spec doesn't fix it. When I watch it on my LF external Blu-ray burner, not a single issue. The maddening thing is that my player, and the disc itself, are both manufactured by Sony.

Do you still have your purchase receipt? You might try to contact the place you bought it. If you bought it directly from Criterion, I would literally be shocked if they didn't send you another copy.

Let us know how it all turns out. Good luck!
