Most excellent. Haha.

I enjoyed Deadpool this weekend, but I wouldn't hold it on a pedestal like most folks seem to be doing. It's basically a standard Marvel origin story that borrows cinematographic cues from Fight Club and wishes it could be as subversive as Fight Club.
I've found that, when mainstream movies are advertised as "so violent" or "so raunchy", I find that they are nowhere near as violent or raunchy as I expected. Maybe I'm just too jaded for my own good.

I think our own pre-conceived ideas about what a film will be like can hinder our enjoyment of a film more than anything. It could take an entire viewing and then some reflection to actually get past it.
It's for this reason that I hate to know too much about a film before I see it, even going so far as to not know what a film is about before I see it.

I like trailers a lot, but my favorite ones show the "feel" of a film rather than any kind of plot outline.

Well to me the theatrical looks a little more defined, but the TV version appears to have more vibrant colors.

Unfortunately I don't remember much of those lately, last year I barely watched any trailer (at least before I saw the movie), they are often those that show the three act structure or if is a comedy show the best jokes

Some of the films in the Eclipse Series are fun solely for the fact that I know next to nothing about them. I wish that I can approach new films in the way you describe, but most times it is unavoidable.

Regarding trailers, if anybody is interested in The Conformist, but has never seen the film or the trailer, DO NOT.. I repeat DO NOT watch the trailer. I mean, it is absolutely silly what they give away in the darn trailer.

Great film, but I think the blu-ray release we have stinks, btw...

I enjoy the RaroVideo Blu-ray of The Conformist, but I admittedly have never seen it in a different edition or format.

It really is a great film.

From the realm of "it ain't going to happen, but..."

Mother Joan of the Angels

I finally got around to watching my R2 DVD from Second Run last night, and was totally blown away by the composition of the shots. And this was the earlier edition were the quality was even less than wonderful, but Jerzy Kawalerowicz's direction really shined through.

I've been sitting on a copy of Pociag/Night Train for a while now, and need to put it to the top of the watch pile.

Deadpool was VERY lacking story wise. Tad disappointing, I'm pretty sure the trailers gave ay to much away?

I have not yet seen Deadpool, but those I know that have, loved it. I am picky about which films I go see in a theatre. Because of my lifestyle (3 young children, 2 jobs, 1 wife lol) I was only able to see Star Wars a few times. I didn't even get to see Hateful Eight or The Revenant. I can't justify seeing Deadpool when I couldn't get out to see those!

To anyone who saw my post above about opening a Criterion copy of Mulholland Dr only to find it defective,

I heard back by email from Criterion and they gave me instructions for how to document the problem and where to send the defective disc. They will do test of their own and if determined to be defective they will replace it.

So that should do it. Hopefuly it stays available long enough for me to know if I have to buy it over... but it should be fine.

This gave me a chuckle. I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens twice at the theater during opening week, and told myself that I'd see it a third time on the big screen after a few weeks, but I never got around to that third viewing. It'll be out on Blu-ray soon anyway, I'm sure.

My new house is located less than a mile down the street from two large theaters, so I actually go see new movies more often than I used to at my old location. I'm fond of the seven-dollar pre-noon matinees that I can check out after my Saturday morning workouts with my running group.

One of these theaters near me regularly features the Turner Classic Movies showings, and I'm looking forward to seeing the big screen presentation of The Maltese Falcon this coming weekend.

Well, four is the actual number, and I don't think I saw a movie four times in the theatres since an old girlfriend and I saw An Eye for an Eye and Seven back in the mid-to-late 90's during college. Her and I would go to the movies almost every day if we could, and a lot of times, we would go see movies we liked several times.

I had to see SW7 on opening night...just had to. My wife was totally cool with it since she knows I'm a die hard fan. I took off work the next day and saw the first screening in the morning. Wife didn't know about that one... Then saw it again opening weekend with a husband of my wife's friend who never saw any SW film (he's from Bosnia). It was her idea to take him, and I had to oblige, the good husband that I am. Finally, I took my 5 year old to see it a month after it was released. He has seen more SW than my Bosnian friend. lol

I would also love to see classic films on the big screen if there were some close to me. I think the nearest is less then an hour away, but I can hardly get out, and a night with the kiddos is definitely something I won't give up if I had a choice.

Wow, you saw it 3 (or 4, I'm confused) times already and I could barely make it through the first time.
(for the record, I'm a Star Wars fan too, of the original trilogy that is)

My cousin up north saw it 10 times. It helps that his wife is a huge fan, and they saw it with lots of different couples and friends! But 10? Damn!

4, sorry...opening night, the morning after, another time on Sunday that same weekend (with Bosnian friend) and a month later with my son.

Color me jellis. I have 50 miles to the nearest movie theater and it's a small multiplex (ie. Hollywood fare). Nearest art house theater is 70 miles away.

There's gotta be a system to how Criterion assigns a number to a film's URL. It seems completely random. The upgrades have smaller numbers and new films have 5-digit numbers but they're not sequential. I guess it prevents URL guessing.
