That Alfred Hitchcock boxed set at 50% off is looking really good.

That was my first thought too...if flash sales could only happen on days we hadn't already bought stuff they'd be even more infrequent than they are now.

Just a suggestion but you could purchase The Rock Box which includes the Beatles movie you mentioned and 3 other rock blu Rays!

True that to all of the above.

I'm not complaining, of course. I'm glad that I held off on buying The Kid, The Graduate, Lady Snowblood, and the rest of 'em.

I couldn't wait with Gilda, and I received it from Amazon a couple weeks back. That's Gilda, though, and, as such, it warrants an exception.

I almost bought the Pierre Etaix set today as well, but withdrew that order at the last second.

I intend to get that one someday, and money wasn't a problem today, but I've already got enough Criterion box sets that I haven't even made a dent with in terms of watching them.

I guess that I shouldn't make a distinction between buying about 10 single-movie Criterion titles and buying a box set, since they'll all go to my still-unwatched stack with the others, but it just seems less daunting to have single-movie titles in the unwatched stack.

There really needs to be a Criterion support group, where we all get up one at a time...

"Hi, my name is Bill, and I have a classic film addiction. The first step is admitting I have a problem, and, well, I just can't leave Criterion well enough alone."

Here's what I've been thinking since putting in my order:

"You know, Mom just sent you that Kindle book...Francois Truffaut interviewing Alfred Hitchcock. And yeah, you already have Psycho, North By Northwest, Rebecca, Spellbound, Notorious, Rear Window, Vertigo, and The Birds. That's a good start on his filmography...but you don't have any of the films he did before coming to the States. And, oooh, look, the Classic Hitchcock set is only like $48 right now. Since that's not $50, you'd end up paying like $5 for shipping, so you might as well pick up Bergman Island for $10. Win win, right?"

Where does it end? I can afford it. But I swore I wasn't going to spend any more until this time next month, when I hit up FOX Connect to add to my Marilyn Monroe collection, and the Warner Archive Collection that I have yet to explore at all. I mean, The Big Sleep, Key Largo, Out of the Past, Murder My Sweet, and I've been wanting to get The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I need Yankee Doodle Dandy and Passage to Marseille. And there are a bunch of Kino Lorber movies I need, and Twilight Time. I have a bunch more imports I want. And then, The Manchurian Candidate, and Bicycle Thieves will be out, and In a Lonely Place.

And before I know it, it will be July, and Barnes & Noble will be whistling my way, showing a little leg, begging me to come hither with my wallet.

When does it end? Being a classic film fan is like being a hampster running around inside a wheel...rolling on a Möbius strip.

Since everyone else is posting about it, here's what I ordered:
[Show spoiler]
A classic. Got to add this one to the collection
[Show spoiler]
I loved Seven Samurai, so I except this to be another Kurosawa classic
[Show spoiler]
I've been on sort of a hitch over the films of these guys lately, so this seemed like a no-brainer
[Show spoiler]
Everyone else got it, so why not?
[Show spoiler]
Very excited to see this. I've heard nothing but the best about this film.
[Show spoiler]
Everyone else was getting it, so why not? (Also, I love me some CC)
[Show spoiler]
Kind of an odd choice, but they're one of my all-time favorite artists.

I was planning on getting a lot of other titles, such as Gilda, The Rock Box, The Game, Videodrome... in fact, my original list of titles had 20 films, and I don't have 400+ dollars to spend! Oh well. I'll get those next time

Twilight Time is going to be rough. I'm hoping a few of the movies they've released that have sold out are reissued at some point soon. I want to add As Good As It Gets. I love that film. I can never get enough of Nicholson. That was my first experience with TT, looking it up on this site, and seeing "limited to 3,000 copies---SOLD OUT". I'll wait a bit, as it plays pretty often on HD Net, so I have it sit on my DVR on and off. But I want to own it. If it's not re-issued soon, I'll break down and shell out the bucks. I got lucky with The Big Heat. A seller on Amazon had one original copy that they'd never opened, and they sold it to me at cost.

I'll wait a few days, and buy Judgment at Nuremberg, because I don't want to risk its selling out.

Believe you me, belcherman, I am going to get a region-free Blu-ray player here soon. I'll tire of watching my imports on my laptop, and take the plunge. Maybe the new player won't freeze up on Taxi Driver.

I'll be listing (and hopefully selling) As Good as it Gets whenever I decide to stop being a lazy bastard and put my films up for sale.

Damn! I purchased about $99.00 worth of Criterions which qualified me for the $50 certificate. Weren't Criterion selling what they had left for around $179.00? With 50% off and the $50 coupon I would have gotten a good deal. Now I need to decide if I want to use the certificate now or wait for the next sale.
