I'm a fan of the Beat Generation so it was an easy decision for me whether to get it or not. Because of this my recommendation is a bit biased. But if I did things again I would probably get the DVD edition over the BD due to not being the best looking cinematography.

I have all these exact same blus but I struggle with the urge to sell Sugarland Express and Always. I strongly dislike those films, probably will never re-watch them and only have them for completist sake.

Likely encoded differently. UK releases means Region conversion.

I wonder if the releases will be B locked or A/B?

If the latter is true I wonder if we'll see future releases that are A/B in both markets?

Lastly, I wonder if there will be any difference in suppliments?

Oh, you know that could be true.
one market licences one extra, but the other doesn't.
We'll be comparing Criterions now before we buy anything!

I don't know much about licensing, but maybe there are things they world have liked to include as a supplement on a US release but couldn't get the rights, but find they *can* get the rights in the UK.

Then we'll get the kind of whining that happens with Arrow stuff!

I'm guessing they'll release some of the titles that haven't had Region B releases in the UK. None of the titles they're releasing in April (Tootsie, It Happened One Night, MacBeth, Grey Gardens, Speedy) have had Region B releases if I'm not mistaken. I'll bet the extras will be exactly the same as in the US. Criterion probably wants to get these releases out in the UK before Eureka, Arrow or BFI releases them in Region B compatible form.

Not sure I understand. Criterion obviously hold the rights to these in the UK. How would Arrow/BFI/MOC release them if Criterion already holds the rights?

I'm saying that Criterion will release films that haven't been released by one of these companies in the UK. Criterion has had quite a bit of overlapping with MoC and Arrow Academy the last few years. I'm sure they'll just put out a lot of their US discs with region B compatibility. That's great for everyone across the pond.

Wow I am surprised by Eureka insider response in their forum:

Quote:
Seeing as they have far more money than us and other U.K indies, I'd hardly class this a "yes" moment. If you want companies like us to go out of business because criterion throw tonnes of money at stuff and price us out of the acquisition market, then go and celebrate, but I really don't see this as a good thing for the uk independent sector.
While Criterion has more money, they are hardly anything similar to a big studio, what is important is that there will now be more movies released that previously didn't had a chance in that territory.
