Ive been avoiding this like the plague - I love the director previous films, but I'm just a bit put off by the casting and the theme of the film, and lots of negative reviews have put me of watching the film which is pretty crappy for me to allow haha.

I don't know but story just looks a bit out there and silly? I may be completely wrong but I don't care about watching a bunch of girls wearing pretty much nothing, getting drunk - committing crimes and being silly lol.

Re reading all that I know it sounds very stupid and dumb for me say - I am just not convinced and yes, I am unfairly not giving this film a chance yet!

The film marketing is pretty bad tbh, and maybe they have tried targeting the wrong audience... hence bad reviews.

On some level I know I probably wont be disappointed and stuff but I put walls up with some films out of fear they may be awful lol

Another thing is the entire concept of 'Spring Break' to me is ridiculous - maybe cause I am British and we don't really have it so I cant relate to it - but I can't imagine 'Spring Breaks' to be real or how they portray them in films etc when you see teenagers partying and getting drunk in UK its pretty lame and disappointing haha. Nothing like how the American parties are portrayed.

I'd recommend giving it a shot.

I applaud the film for its portrayal of the current culture we're living in.

The way college students act in this film is very reminiscent of a typical weekend at most colleges and universities, at least in these parts (in fact, I know a few people like them). I understand we're a hedonistic race looking to maximize pleasure and minimize suffering, but there's a time when people need to take a step back and re-evaluate themselves and the direction that their lives are heading.

I also enjoy the film for the way it touches sex, partying, modern day rap, and the general feeling of absurdity in the world.

Ah thanks - I will give it a shot in a bit Just watched Audrey Rose - Great performance from Susan Swift! found her to be quite chilling in some scenes! though the court scenes were a bit silly lol.

I didn't think they actually had parties like they portray them in films lol, man UK is boring lol. Also Selema Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, hard to take them serious :roll eyes:

-

Back to Criterion - do you think we will ever get proper booklets back in every release? Especially now they have branched out to UK markets. I miss them so much.

I guess I was expecting the original packaging to be used again but:

[Show spoiler]

At least the booklet is included instead of a dorm room poster.

Shame as the digipack style was stunning! they did the same with The Double Life of Veronique.

Atleast they keep booklets on upgrades!

For my money the best packaging is the kind used for Seven Samurai and Battle of Algiers. That adds luxury feel.

Yah they were pretty strong materials and tbh I found majority of the recent dual format digipacks to be quite strong and well put together.

I think a lot of people didn't like the fact the digipacks were often dual format and if you removed the DVDs (Like I did) then the slots are empty. Didn't bother me. I gave away or sold the DVDs.

DF was great for me as I didn't want to buy multiple region free bluray players, but I had a spare DVD player in my room - so I could watch the film in bed without having to unplug everything lol XD

But oh well - wonder why Arrow/MoC collectors have no problem with DF releases though >.>

And Ugetsu. That is a great book. That would make an amazing upgrade to blu. Only thing I know of is the UK version in a box set.

Do they still sell DVD only versions? That's probably why.

Criterion decided it wanted to keep selling DVD-only copies because they realized there was still a market for those. What they didn't foresee is that doing so would become majorly cost-prohibitive.

What's the general consensus? Will we get an upgrade in June or no?

I have a strange feeling that Le Samouraļ is coming.

This is another great release. I watched the film then read the included novel. I guess the perfect release would be film+book+soundtrack.

How about Y tu mama Tambien? To me, aesthetically the booklet is the best I have seen in collection.

Great film too...
