Linklater said it's coming "very very soon". Two very's! Since July is the next month to be announced, it does seem logical.

As for big box sets, the Jacques Demy set was released in July, so there's at least some precedence.

In other words, if I didn't like those movies, what's the likelihood of liking the Before Trilogy?
I'm not a Dazed fan but I do like Boyhood. I think the Before trilogy is superior, in that the films really provide an interesting and realistic relationship arc and character arcs. I personally was not blown away when I first saw Before Sunrise, as I didn't think the dialogue was as interesting as most do. However, seeing Before Sunset really made things come together for me, and gave me a better understanding of the characters. Then, Before Midnight really hit the themes and arc home. Individually, the films are not necessarily enthralling, but collectively, they're excellent.

Yes indeed. If they don't include the entire film, hopefully they will at least include that scene in the supplements.

My copy of Bicycle Thieves arrived today. Excited to watch it again tonight!

In other news, Criterion shared this link to Observer's 50 essential documentaries on their website. Some interesting films!

I had lied to myself in saying I was not going to purchase this after seeing they ditched the DVD packaging. I was hoping for a release similar to Picnic at Hanging Rock or Red River with the book.

However, my B&N gift certificates were burning a hole in my pocket so I ordered Bicycle Thieves and Poem is a Naked Person today.

My goal is to hold off on April, May and June releases until the next B&N sale.

God that film is depressing.

...definitely not something I would watch to boost my spirits at the end of a bad day.

I bought the Cloverfield Blu-ray for five dollars this past month, because I had a hankering to revisit it before going to see 10 Cloverfield Lane, which happens to be a truly outstanding film.

I had forgotten how much fun I used to have watching Cloverfield several years ago, and I was reminded that it's a solid entry into sci-fi horror, especially as far as found footage films go.

FWIW, I don't even like Cloverfield that much. It was £1 from a second hand shop, not particularly indicative of my taste in film.
I just watched Cloverfield finally for the very first time about 4 nights ago. I knew about this film beforehand but never bothered to getting around to viewing it. I also was aware that there would be a lot of intentional shaky camera movement too. So I finally saw it. It was pretty good I must admit, but I have to say, the shaky camera was becoming a turn-off after a while. I always loved the classic stable Hollywood type of camera-work before intentional shake became so popular in cinema. Perhaps Kubrick's films are the finest in terms of stable camerawork. Everything in his films (post-Paths of Glory) is meticulous and smooth.

I think the main reason though I finally got around to seeing the original Cloverfield was because I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane in the movie theater a couple of weeks ago. I don't think the film did too well, as it was only playing there for a week or two at the most. Still, it made me want to see what this "Cloverfield" shtick was all about. So now I know.

And I'll take Jurassic Park over Cloverfield any day. It's not even close.

Its a shame as a lot of the best stuff around Cloverfield was the marketing and viral campaigns.

Like the sick girl at the party who uploaded video tapes after eating the ingredient used fro Slusho's( I think?) for her boyfriend - and the news reports on the destroyed oil rigs.

So many hidden details majority of the audience don't see or know about because it requires time to go hunt for.. some really awesome - Loved the mystery behind it and leaves so much for us to look for our own answers and stuff.

Half asleep so this may end up being gobbledygoop.

As a New Yorker, Cloverfield both terrified and saddened me. Considering the way it was filmed, the special effects were incredible. I did find the characters to be rather annoying though, and didn't care about their well-being whatsoever .

Just curious: what commentaries do you guys find the best?
So far I've really liked the ones for L'avventura, Paths of Glory, and The Gold Rush.
I'm not a fan of Peter Cowie ones.
Thanks!

Check out the Mike Nicholas and Steven Soderbergh commentary on "The Graduate". I enjoyed that one. Soderbergh and Nichols are great together. Robert Altman's commentary on "3 Women" is very good, illuminating his thought process regarding the film. Also, check out the "Black Narcissus" and "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" commentaries, both of which alternate between Martin Scorsese and Michael Powell.

Not a fan of the Peter Cowie commentaries either.

Off the top of my head my favourties are:
Godzilla/Godzilla, King of the Monsters - David Kalat
Yi Yi - Edward Yang and Tony Rayns
Videodrome - David Cronenberg and Mark Irwin
Phantom Carriage - Casper Tybjerg

Monte Hellman ones are good as well.

This is what I'd like to see:

Packaging: Digipack (Like the Three Colors set)
Cover art: Sarah Habibi (Hand drawn artwork is ideal. Would not mind stills. I trust her talent)
Printed content: Booklet (No dorm room posters here)
Blu-ray menu (clips not static image): (Nobody talks about these but I love when they uses clips instead of static photos)
-Before Sunrise (Jesse convincing Celine to tour Vienna with him)
-Before Sunset (Jesse in the bookstore noticing Celine is there)
-Before Midnight (Jesse and Celine watching the sunset)
Bonus material: commentary by Linklater, Hawke and Delpy on all 3 films. Interview with Linklater on his real life story behind Before Sunrise.
Interview with Linklater, Hawke and Delpy on the writing process.
This would be a very nice release.

I really like the commentary track for Red Desert.

I did not understand that movie for jack when I first saw it, so the commentary track helped walk me through some of the rough spots.

A couple that come to mind as of now are Gregory Mank on Island Of Lost Souls and Bruce Goldstein and Scott Mcgee's track for Speedy.
Pretty much all the Chaplin commentaries are great too, havent heard the two most recent ones though.

Among the great ones already mentioned I will add Michael Jeck's Seven Samurai commentary. 3+ hours flew by.
