Im sooo excited about this release but is it very "shakey"? I get terrible headaches when films are shot home movie style.

You mean upgrades? they used to do it all the time, at least one a month, this year they have been sparse but yes they still do it, they just announced two last month: Night and Fog and Carnival of Souls

So, the big question now is how much in total will it cost to get the Criterion package? The base package just became much less valuable to me.

I posted this in the official thread.

You can definitely tell the filmmakers are not using tripods, but it's certainly nothing like The Blair Witch Project.
They're definitely some of the best cinéma-vérité films to ever be made, but the subject matter didn't particularly hold my attention.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this release.

I absolutely love the three films that have been released thus far in the Collection.

Caved and bought the existing MGM blu-ray of Midnight Cowboy yesterday. So when Criterion announces it in the coming months, you'll have me to thank.

Yeah I don't get what is up with Warner I guess the problem is that they have their own streaming service, which by the way is not widely available on TV platforms, and then it is quite costly for the amount of titles they have, then they don't want to sell their films rights to Criterion, and very slowly release some of them via the Warner Archives label, I guess they believe their films are much more valuable than the ones from any other studio out there.

In fairness, Warner has probably released more of its back catalog on blu ray than any other studio. They also let TCM stream many of their movies, and they have started to license a few to Criterion. I do agree that their WAC streaming offering is weak, given the number of titles available in a given month, but maybe there's enough people who find value in it. It's been around for a couple of years now, and they haven't pulled the plug, so maybe it's working for them.

I don't aim to tell anyone how to run their business but I do question when some of their decisions don't make sense from an artistic or business perspective, such as releasing Ice Pirates before Bringing Up Baby. Really?

ObCriterion: Bringing Up Baby would make a terrific Criterion release.

Just saw this, it's August 31st

It totally deserves a Criterion release, I thought it was already out at least in the UK, but it's only on France and Norway.

Just checked his small filmography and if they release something by him, this seems the best candidate.

Whoops! That's what happens when I write in haste.

It's also an IFC title.

Trier is back in Oslo this summer/autumn to shoot his next Norwegian film. If i bump into him i'll ask him if he is coming to the collection.

I just finished watching my Criterion Blu-ray of A Hard Day's Night, and am now going through the special features.

A Hard Day's Night has been sitting in my unwatched stack forever. My decision to put it into rotation this morning was spurred by my recent decision to order The Beatles in Mono box set from Amazon. Ever so often, I go through a fervent rediscovery of The Beatles, and I spend a couple of months listening to their albums one after another. In this instance, I decided that the price of the Mono box set had dropped enough for me to bite the hook.

Even if one had never heard of The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night would still be an engaging film simply because of its joyfully kinetic cinematography and because of the vivacious way that it captures a time capsule snapshot of its era. I won't go so far as to say that it's a road trip film, but it does exude that same constant motion vibe featured in movies like Il Sorpasso or Band of Outsiders. After watching this movie, I just feel rambunctious and I want to go outside to run around the block for hours.

A Hard Day's Night shows the four members of The Beatles as somewhat arrogant, but likable guys who are riding the way of public mania with as much grace and fun-spirited fascination as anyone else could hope to do. Wilfrid Brambell is a trip as Paul McCartney's unconventional and energetic grandfather. There are also teenage girls...a ton of teenage girls. The movie does not have a single coherent plot, but its series of vignettes all seamlessly run together to keep the feature running along.

Right now, I'm enjoying the documentary hosted by Phil Collins, who was an extra on the set of this film.

The Blu-ray looks and sounds awesome. That's pretty much the best way that I can describe the presentation.

I cannot say enough good things about this disc, but I'll wrap this up, because I just want to listen to the music.

Can somebody be a peach and scan the front and back images of Che: Part One and Che: Part Two for the database?

I'm fixing the entire Blu-ray database and focusing specifically on Criterion right now. I'm removing "The Criterion Collection" from all of the titles because it's redundant. I'm also editing the OP of this thread and sorting everything by release date and mentioning how many releases of a given month have been reviewed.

I like the 'Che' images I have currently uploaded, but the dimensions are weird and not fitting neatly with the other artwork.
