Well, lucky for me I have this color deficiency -- it was decades ago that I was diagnosed, so I don't remember the name, but I'm not color blind; it's something else. But basically if colors are close in hue or value (or something), I have a hard time discerning them.

I remember many years ago trying to point out a car to a friend, and I kept saying, "The yellow one over there." Eventually he figured out which one I meant, and he was like, "Dude, that is not even close to yellow. That's green. What are you talking about?"

So, a lot of these sorts of problems don't really register, since what I'm seeing is different to begin with. The doctor basically described it as the way my brain processes and identifies colors is different from the way regular people do. But I guess there's occasionally an upside.

Speaking of criterion collections, why is it that the movie dead presidents is still not on blu-ray?its incredibly stupid that its not when its been on laserdisc for so long.

Don't tell Criterion that! New World was shot in a way that, if the negative wasn't colour-timed properly, it will look faded as all hell. Telling Criterion "No Teal" will result in them making the final product look faded to oblivion.

Because the film is owned by Disney. It will be nice to see a new Criterion of the film, but now, it might not seem likely. Also, funny enough that you mention this film, as the forum for Arrow Video on this website is only talking about this film!

Menace is already available through Warner Bros, but again, it will be nice to see an Criterion edition. And again, since Criterion has a deal with WB, you may never know...

What's the deal with The Immortal Story? Im usually a Welles fan and I love Moreau but this film had to have a deeper meaning then what I picked up.

Not sure how to spoiler so I'm making this as vague as possible.

Welles found out a story someone told him was actually a fable passed around by many sailors and he decided to make this fable come true?

What am I missing???

Oooh, received 3 Women and Le Amiche yesterday and didn't even realize it!

I'm really looking forward to seeing both tonight. I've seen 3 Women, but not for a very long time. And I've never seen Le Amiche, and I'm always happy to add more Antonioni to the collection.

Just watched Woman in the Dunes on Hulu and thought it is really good, but at times I felt is a bit too long, just saw on Imdb that version is the director's cut which is the one that is going to be on blu-ray, has anyone seen the shorter 123 minute version?, I wonder what was cut.

No dunes in the shorter version.

Longest 58 minutes I've ever seen on film. If I hear "Mr. Clay" one more time I'm going to lose my mind.

Just got back from the arthouse theater after seeing The Lobster, and my mind is still in a daze about what I just watched. The movie reminded me of Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange and Louis Malle's Black Moon with a bit of a fascist "1984" Orwellian element thrown in for good measure. This film's story is totally insane, sadistic and machoistic... hard to figure out as I'm still digesting this. My friend John and I also talked about the film afterwards, saying it was a good social commentary on "today's ever-dehumanizing society full of zombified human beings numbed out on prescription drugs who adhere to a police state-inspired moral code and totalitarian establishment".

I want to see Yorgos Lanthimos' other film Dogtooth sometime but I hear that is also extremely bizarre too. We might see his films in the Criterion Collection in the future. He's one to watch.

Dogtooth is a a lot darker and harder to watch than The Lobster - however it is 100% worth checking out, really great film that challenges you, and of course very whacky/bizarre.

I also loved The Lobster. It's quirky and strange, but also a creative way of processing romance and companionship. Haven't seen Dogtooth, but really eager to after seeing this delight.

Also in complete agreement about The Immortal Story. Hate the film, not just because it is slow, but it attempts to be profound and fails. Usually I buy all Criterions, but this one will test that compulsion. Will probably wait for reviews about the supplements since I doubt I'll watch the film again.

It came off like a poor man's Visconti to me, but it has been years since I last saw it.

Dogtooth is great. I don't know that it's anymore bizarre than The Lobster. It's certainly droller, but still very funny.

Dogtooth also includes one the best dance sequence in cinematic history.
