As long as we're kind of dreaming on some possible Criterion titles, it's one I'd love to see Criterion release out of left field.
Thanks for the reminder. With The Rapture being one of my top five favorite films and The Player being my favorite Altman picture other than 3 Women, this was naturally on my radar for a while, but it had fallen to the back of my mind over the years. I will make it a priority.

Yep, that's the one. If the Oscars were worth anything, Mimi Rogers would've won Best Actress that year based on her roadside confession alone.

That's actually how I've felt about Del Toro's career as a whole. I keep wanting to like his films, but he simply never rises above the mediocre for me. That's why I don't feel too bad about his take on At the Mountains of Madness not coming to fruition.

Maborosi would be my dream, but I don't think it's going to happen. The company that's trying to restore it has been trying to get it out for more than 5 years, but they are not getting any help (only problems) from the film's distributor in Japan.

That surprises me. The Third Man is one of the all-time greatest, but I certainly don't think Odd Man Out is bad, quite the contrary, it's a really good movie in my opinion. I know some people who think it's even better than The Third Man, but they're wrong.

Odd Man Out is a fantastic film - got to see it on in a theatre very recently, and it was even better!

It bored me to no end because
[Show spoiler]there was no main character. James Mason was injured and passed out for more than half the film, so it was mostly just a series of uninteresting supporting characters he kept coming across, or more aptly, were coming across him. Obviously, being injured, he couldn't do much, but as a result he was maybe the most passive, inactive "main" character I've ever seen, and the whole movie just sat there waiting for the lead to do something active, which really never happened.

Likely further down the line, but just watched the potential CC flick Female Trouble - not sure how it ranks alongside Pink Flamingos (which I love), but this one is another outrageous black comedy. One of the highlights is its theme song, sung by Divine herself!

Since Criterion forum won't let me post on their forum (Is there a secret handshake or an Eyes Wide Shut party I have to attend to be able to post there?), here's my speculation for September:
Boyhood
Election
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Pan's Labyrinth (as well as a Del Toro Spanish trilogy box like with the Gregory/Shawn films)
Blood Simple
The Circus

Had the misfortune of watching "The In-Laws" (1979) tonight- a dull, lame, terribly unfunny affair that had me wondering just what the hell the Criterion crew (and, apparently, audiences) saw in it. Hiller's "Silver Streak" (1976) is a far superior Action/Comedy film in every facet. "Freebie and The Bean" (1974, and also with Arkin), though ridiculous, is a substantially more entertaining experience, as well.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but La Ronde is coming out this month from Screenbound in UK. I think it will be region locked to B, but wonder if any of the unreleased Ophuls will be released from Criterion anytime soon. They released The Earrings of Madame De & Lola Montes, but La Plaisir & La Ronde are still missing. Maybe they could release a box set of all 4 with the new restoration of Madame De. That would be wonderful.

I must politely disagree. What I saw in it was the complete opposite of what you did.

Maybe because they added the marlon Brando phantom page.

Shouldn't he already have a page? Because of On the Waterfront and whatnot.

Universal will release One-Eyed Jacks themselves. Just like they did with Spartacus. They're obviously very proud of their recent restoration.
