Work has been killing my time on here... But I saw afew pages ago Neon Demon was discussed. So is it worth the time in theater or bluray it?

I thought Valhalla Rising was good

I noticed there's a new restoration of Elevator to the Gallows (1958) screening here in August. Might be a sign of an imminent upgrade from Criterion.

I don't think "In the Realm..." is considered a mainstream film, technically speaking. Arthouse at best.

Some detective work reveals it's also showing in LA early August.

If you hated OGF you might hate this too. But, even if you hate it, it's worth seeing in the theater for the audaciousness of the visuals and how great the score is. If you have any fondness for giallo films, you should definitely go see it. It's bombing pretty hard so you should probably do it soon before it's yanked from all theaters.

I thought The Neon Demon was much more straightforward and easier to follow than OGF, but the styles are similar and there's still a lot of expressionistic imagery/scenes that won't make sense.

I'd recommend trying before buying.

Considering theater tickets these days cost about the same as a mainstream blu-ray, it's hard to do that with this one

Thanks, that was my gut feeling. Just wasn't sure if there were any earth shattering extras to sway my decision since I love both movies. I rarely dig into extras anyway so not sure what difference it makes.

Looks like my choices for the sale will be:
The Graduate
8 1/2
Phoenix
Dazed and Confused
Persona
The Red Shoes
Certified Copy
400 Blows

Subject to change of course

Seems like it'll be a good mix and should keep me busy since all but one are blind buys.

Yeah, I think it'd be worth a theater trip. My matinee was $7, and I felt I got my money's worth just fine.

I'll roll the dice on it matinee style. I like visually odd movies, Cliff Martinez scores and Argento flicks so what's the worst that can happen lol?

It's still the king (or queen) of the half dozen Oshima films I've seen! And the others are no slouches either.

...It's also my most watched Criterion Bluray

I don't know about y'all, but I thought that The Shallows was a pretty cool movie.
