I usually encourage buying (and even blind buying since it can be cheaper than actually going to the movies), but if you're hesitant I just wanted to throw the info out there. I have an embarrassingly huge list of movies I own but haven't seen for the reasons you stated. |

![]() I think a NWR film is inevitable. I could see Drive getting the Criterion treatment, since it seems to tops everyone's lists and could be considered his best and most influential. Not sure if the studios would give up those rights, but then if Lars Von Trier can get into the Collection, then why not some NWR? |

About halfway through Armageddon (which I've somehow never seen), and it's hysterical. Gratuity and excess across the board, from the countless explosions to Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler making out in a space shuttle. Surprised this hasn't become a camp classic a la Valley of the Dolls.

![]() Armageddon is a high-school favorite of mine. Watched the Blu-Ray last summer and still found it enjoyable, even with all the Bayhem. I'm sure the film has a following, especially among Bay fans. |

Speaking of Armageddon, Aerosmith is going on their farewell tour next year (...and I'm pretty sure that it's a real farewell tour, since Steven Tyler will be 69 years old). I really hope that I can make it to one of those shows, because I've never seen them before, and I've always wanted to. |

I'm in Berlin for a few days and managed to catch a showing of one of Douglas Sirk's earlier films, Meet Me at the Fair. It's light and largely toothless, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It still has that Sirkian charm, and had some laugh-out-loud moments for the entire audience of 60+ people.
I noticed that it and a lot of other Sirk seems to be unavailable in any digital format and got to wondering if there had ever been any rumors of a Sirk Eclipse set. Seems like his early movies might not warrant the deluxe 4K and a bucket of extras treatment (though that print was beautiful...), but if there are others early ones as enjoyable as Meet Me, I'd blind-buy that set in a heartbeat. Anyone know if there are any other upcoming or rumored Sirk releases (other than upgrades) from any of the usual suspects? I'm sincerely hoping this Sirk retrospective travels elsewhere. Looks like it's the same films that started at Lincoln Center in New York end of last year. |

I saw Aerosmith again around 2010 with Sammy Hagar and I just wasnt feeling it at all. Im sure I just wasnt the same person but it was a good show, dont get me wrong, but not an amazing show. In a couple weeks Im seeing Heart, Joan Jett & Cheap Trick. Thats a concert Im too hyped over. Seen all three before over the years but still extremely pumped. Sorry to derail the Criterion topic but wanted to share. |

Including that awesome 1997 Greatest Hits tour. Was December. Was great. Can't say much for the other shows (since they were based around those early 2000's shitty albums). Not sure where I'm going with this, but letting you know you are not alone in the realm of Aerosmith fandom. /endofderail Last edited by Mr. Pale; 07-09-2016 at 02:25 AM. |

Went into B&N with the intention of getting Dr. Strangelove and ended up walking out with that, George Washington, and Y Tu Mama Tambien. Only haven't seen the latter, so I'm gonna check that out tomorrow night. Really love Alfonso Cuaron so I expect good things!

After working a full 10 hours today, I came home to all these wonderful titles from the B&N sale:
![]() ![]() I had a DVD copy of The Manchurian Candidate, so I used a Scanovo case to turn the Criterion Blu-Ray into a combo pack. ![]() What a great Friday! ![]() |

Went to the B&N location in the valley because I was in the area anyway and wanted to see if they had any of the titles I was looking for. I went there for 3 of the 4 titles I wanted, and I ended up walking out with all four

I'm excited about this year's Criterion sale, but I am at a loss as to what to buy! I just picked up the White Stillman boxed set and The Graduate, Lady Snowblood, and Inside Llewyn Davis.
All things I was waiting patiently since release until the next Criterion sale to pick up. My budget has room for quite a bit more, but I'm having a hard time deciding. I'm considering Dr Strangelove, but I already have the original release, and it seems to be the same video & audio, just with different bonus features, so I'm having a hard time making it a priority to pick it up right now. It is, however, one of my all-time favorites, and the only Kubrick Criterion Blu-Ray that I don't have (not that there are all that many, but still...) I also have a nice collection of Kurosawa Criterion Blus. I'm missing High & Low and Ikiru. The others are all fantastic, with many of his films being all-time favorites for me. Should I make getting these two a priority? I already have Ikiru on DVD, but do not have High & Low at all, nor have I seen it. Let's see... Kieslowski. I *love love LOVE* Trois Couleurs. I'm also a big fan of Dekalog and have the DVDs and will buy the Bluray as soon as it comes out. So, should I pick up the other Criterion Blurays, Blind Chance, and Double Life? I have not seen either. I'm a big Hitchcock fan as well. I have many of his Blurays, including The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes from Criterion. Perhaps I should be picking The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Foreign Correspondent (which I've actually never even seen)? There's a few Godard and Truffaut Blurays I don't have, and I generally like both directors a lot (Truffaut more-so, personally). Besides those classics and "directors collections" which I admire (I'm also a big fan of Ingmar Bergman stuff, but I already have all his Criterion Blus ... Coen Bros, Polanski, Cronenberg, Lynch, ... there are just so many!), I am a big horror buff. If anyone wants to look at my collection, I think there is a link under my screenname here, plus you can look just at my Criterion collection here: https://www.criterion.com/my_criteri...n09/collection What am I missing? What should be my priorities? Any advice, guidance, or suggestions would be most welcome! |
