I don't really think it mean anything. For myself I stop entering in my collection years ago. Plus even with that in the days when I was actually adding things, most of the things I had were not even listed on this site. They might be now but I really don't bother with that now. What is listed there is nowhere near what I actually owned in both Blu-Ray or DVD.

Whose collections have you been looking at? I'd surmise the people who frequent this discussion have a good number of their movies. I personally don't have any Kenji Mizoguchi yet (I tried to buy Sansho the Bailiff and The Life of Oharu, Kurosawa's Rashomon and Kagemusha, and Ozu's Late Spring during the B&N Criterion sale, but they were out of stock), but I have four from Kurosawa, including Ran, which I had imported. And those two I mentioned from Mizoguchi are the first I'll be buying during the Flash sale.

Trust me, both auteurs are well-respected here. Kurosawa is one of my very favorite directors. Seeing Seven Samurai for the first time single-handedly launched my love for Asian cinema. Since buying it, I've expanded my collection to include works from Ozu, Masaki Kobayashi, Edward Yang, and Wong-Kar wai. Seven Samurai and Late Spring would both be very difficult to keep out of my all-time top ten list.

I can say with all confidence that the fastest growing segment of my collection over the next six months will be from directors originating from the Orient. Collectively, the movies I've seen, which just scratch the surface, are philosophical, beautiful, and deeply introspective.

Red Beard is top 5 Kurosawa for me. I'm willing to bet we get a blu before the end of 2017. It's my 2nd most wanted Kurosawa for Criterion blu now, after Madadayo.

[Show spoiler]
This is about a year old, but if you squint you can see the Kurosawa collection on the third shelf, and Mizoguchi on the 2nd.

It's a shame that Ugetsu doesn't have a Region A Blu yet, but I'm so happy we get one of Story of the Last Chrystanthemums.

I would love to see them upgrade a contemporary Kurosawa like The Bad Sleep Well. The cinematography alone would be amazing on blu.
[Show spoiler] I specifically am thinking of the wedding party and in the car during funeral reception.

After these remarks I made it a point to catch the film. Apart from the unbelievable and forced romantic happy ending (much like the My Fair Lady movie), this was a very engaging crazy comedy of manners and social leg-pulling. William Powell is not an actor of great versatility (going by this and the Thin Man films) but he has excellent charisma, and a way to convey a lot with a squint or a raised eyebrow. Gail Patrick as Cornelia was great too.

I have them organized by theatrical release date but I might organize them by director to shake things up a bit.

Yasujirô Ozu’s first talkie is a simple, bittersweet and eventually heartbreaking tale of a mother’s unconditional love for her son.

O-Tsune (Choko Iida) a poverty-stricken, single mother reluctantly submits to her son, Ryosuke’s (Shin'ichi Himori), higher academic pursuits after an enthusiastic chat with his benevolent and pragmatic elementary school teacher, Professor Okubo (Chishû Ryû). Thereby fully committing herself to more hard years of unforgiving labour.
Eager to witness the fruits of his success, O-Tsune unexpectedly calls on her son, but the reality of his situation is not what she had dreamed of.

Themes of parental sacrifice and human kindness trumping over wealth may sound mawkish or cliche but Ozu’s restrained approach renders them anything but. The emotional mother-son dynamic was reminiscent of Ray’s Aparajito and strongly resonated with me.

The Only Son represents an early amalgam of quintessential Ozu tropes and helps in establishing the blueprint for majority of his subsequent works. Whether it’s his distinctive visual aesthetic (complete with long low-angled static shots) or his usage of sparse but evocative music.

The Only Son is an introspective examination of the intricacies of familial bonds and is every bit as moving as some of the legendary director’s more acclaimed films.

Can someone explain what it is about Punch-Drunk Love that they like? I just watched it and thought it was absolutely awful.

For me, it's the combination of: The music, minimal dialogue, colors, atmosphere and pace.

I hate to say this, but you get it or you don't.

It's one of those movies.

It's also the only movie I enjoy by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Your take on it is really good, and now I need to rewatch it. But having said that, The Only Son currently is one of my least favorite Ozu films.

Cat People Blu-ray REVIEW

Hugely atmospheric film. A great reminder that digital filmmaking is a very unfortunate attempt to reinvent the wheel. What Nicholas Musuraca does with light and shadow(s) in this film is pure magic.

Great 2K restoration, and Criterion have another outstanding piece with John Bailey. Top release.

Hit the Jackpot today when I found this out of print classic for $30. Usually goes for over $150+ these days.

Slipcover, booklet and disc in mint condition

It tries way too hard to be all kooky and eccentric. I'd prefer to watch most of Sandler's 'dumb' comedies over it.

PTA in general is overrated, but I like some of his films. I don't like Punch Drunk Love though.
