I loved it. But I haven't seen it since maybe a year after it came out. So I have no idea what my opinion of it would be now.

I see all of this. It is my second viewing after all. However, the universally bad acting is pretty distracting, as is the use of English.

Ok thanks guys. That's a bit reassuring after the Strangelove debate.
Looks like a good blind buy, Sterling Hayden has been really good in everything I've seen him in.

Attention humans: We urge you to watch Black Moon this coming Friday night (September 30) because we earthlings here on Planet Earth will be experiencing an authentic and real "Black Moon" celestial event (which only happens on average once every 3 years)! What better time than now to watch this incredibly bizarre and visionary film from Louis Malle!

Just got home with the DEKALOG. As someone who has never seen them before, when do you reccommend watching A Short Film About Killing and a Short Film About Love? Before/after their respective episodes? After the entire series?

Ha ha! I did find it funny that in the restoration trailer they say something about laughter or moments of happiness. Sorry I can't double check it now to get it right.

I don't recall much joy in any of the stories. It is very bleak. Right up Polaroid's alley.

I thought it was okay.

I'm definitely glad I watched it, but once was enough for this guy.

Default Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

Today, the official release day of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, I purchased the blu-ray at barnesandnoble.com. The price is still listed as $19.99 and I purchased it using my Barnes and Noble Membership (which gave me free shipping,) the coupon code F7V8H7U (giving me 20% off,) and my Barnes and Noble MasterCard (giving me an additional 5% off) making my grand total (with 7% NJ State Sales Tax)

$16.25

Thanks for the reminder. I would have ordered this at the eventual flash sale, but I'll take it now for $4 cheaper.

Watched Videodrome tonight. Always thought provoking no matter how many viewings. Cronenberg has an ability to cover a lot of territory in a very tight, lean narrative. This is his best work IMO.

My Criterion Blu-rays of Valley of the Dolls and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls arrived in the mail today, and the packages are quite beautiful, with regard to the artwork and such.

Right now, though, I'm watching my Blu-ray of Stephen King's Cell, since I myself can be seen in the film. It's rather surreal to see myself on Blu-ray.

Nope, not yet. I was hoping it would go on sale with this latest price drop. No dice. I'll just pick it up at full price in the next few months.

She was great in it. Her, Hackman and Dafoe make for an incredible cast.

Nothing released after 2013 was part of their "7 for 70" promotion. Basically, what was being offered were titles that were past, or soon-to-be-past, their 3-year window. The sole exception was American Buffalo, because they weren't going to be able to sell any copies after they lost the rights on Sep 12.

It's been in the last three "$10 off" sales at SAE and TT, so it'll likely be in the next sale as well. No idea when that'll be, but SAE had one last Nov/Dec, so they might again this year.

Finally watched Carol this week and have to say I am pretty impressed, the cinematography and music alone make this quite worthwhile, then it has terrific acting.

After having seen most other Haynes stuff (Velvet Goldmine, Safe and I'm not There) I wasn't expecting much but this is a real contender for best of that year.

Bringing this to Criterion related territory it kind of reminded me a little bit of the type of social issues of All that Heaven Allows/Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, which is kind of weird knowing Haynes also has a version: Far From Heaven, which I haven't seen, but I remember quite a few here want Criterion to release it.

Is Far From Heaven similar to Carol? or more like his other works?

Not related but I also saw Anomalisa, The Diary of a Teenage Girl and The Lobster, really great films too, looking back at 2015 I think it was a great year and I still have plenty to watch.

I'm not sure why there is a bias against Warner's masters because with their WAC releases they have shown that they can prepare HD masters as good as anyone else. And it's not like Criterion would make 4K restorations for every in-house project. 4K means a lot more work in terms of manual clean-up and would drive up the expense of a project. So unless they are confident to recover it in sales, they won't do a 4K restoration.
