I love The Third Man and Odd Man Out, but didn't care for Night Train to Munich by any means.

It feels like a light Hitchcock film from the 1930s like The Lady Vanishes (but not as good).

I've been buying Criterions for many years now...nearly half my life.

And, aside from his stubborn refusal to upgrade Le Samourai, we've never had a disagreement.

But I've come to realize that Mulvaney rules this thread like God rules the earth.

As in, it looks great, but that's about it?

I'm giving it serious consideration as blind buy.

I actually like the typography, but not crazy about the peach color either. They should just make it white. Isn't it a similiar, if not same font, used on some posters for the films?

I think a dark color would look nice and go with the titles and concept. It'd also bring out the colors of the sun

What could I possibly say about Jean-Pierre Léaud's performance that hasn't already been said? His improvisational skills, at 14 years of age, no less, are jaw dropping. You never feel like he's acting; even though Truffaut let him improvise what he was saying within the context of the script, he's authentic every step of the way. You feel his plight. You empathize with him.

I love that he and Truffaut explored his Antoine Doinel character for another 20 years. It will be interesting to see him grow as an actor, all while gaining more insights into Truffaut's own life.

We're screening The 400 Blows at our movie club tonight!

I think it is the lesser of those three movies. It's fun enough though. I'd likely pick it up at some point.

We watched Fallen Idol by Carol Reed the other night, and it was a great surprise - Much better than we thought it would be.

Bergman's or Kurosawa's?

Since it's a bunch of short films/vignettes it doesn't really have a narrative flow. Which sequences you'll like will be according to your own personal taste. I for one like Sunshine Through the Rain, The Peach Orchard and Village of the Waterfalls, enjoy The Blizzard and Crows, love The Tunnel and The Weeping Demon but I don't like the Mount Fuji in Red sequence.

I consider it minor Kurosawa but it's a darn beautiful film to view and as such still belongs in anyone's Kurosawa collection.

Yeah, I guess because it's a 'forgotten masterpiece' I sort of thought it would be middling, but actually, it's fantastic.
