Spoilers? C'mon!
Puhleeze. I directly challenge you to tell me why not. Again, this is about the script not the corny pop music in the film. I'll throw crumbs your way to start, when Scurlock is reading a newspaper article glorifying the Kid and says, "Jesus Christ, this country needs a hero."

or how about the joke where he kills Joe Grant and asks "How many is that 20-25?" and Scurlock answers, "5." and Bonney says, "We'll call it 10 even. How'd that be?"

I'm not sure how much you know about the events but if you're just of casual knowledge about The LCW I'm not sure how you'd know is and isn't deconstructionist. Not trying to sound snooty but it's a little annoying to read statements like that when I'm not sure you'd know what is deconstructionist about the script.

EDIT: I doubt anyone cares enough to back up their actual statements but we can continue in the YG thread if interested.

Well, I don't have a lot to say...except that... I watched the first 4 episodes of the new "return" on SHOWTIME the last 2 nights and have officially been blown away. It might be "too soon", but I'm going to say this is David Lynch's finest material he's ever done, EVER. Yes, I know, he's created some legendary films, but the fact that he received Carte Blanche for this revival series means his imagination and vision has absolutely no obstacles. The original Twin Peaks that aired in 1990 and 1991 was extremely low budget (and CGI really wasn't utilized yet, even though it was in its early existence). This new Twin Peaks is so far one of the greatest things I've ever experienced on television. It is everything opposite today's fast paced, rushed, tightly scripted television shows. Twin Peaks: The Return is delicious, slow burning entertainment that has not one single dull moment. The fact that nobody knows where this is going is absolutely thrilling. The best part is, David Lynch directed all 18 hours (episodes) of this unbelievable show.

I am compelled to go back and watch my Twin Peaks box set that is still sealed so I can properly get caught up... and hell, I'll wait till the whole new (3rd) season is finished and I'll go and rewatch those first 4 episodes and then binge watch the rest of it in 4 or 5 nights! The new Twin Peaks is amazing, brilliant shit that is beyond disturbing and esoteric.
It's the best thing I'm watching on TV precisely because it is operating on a level that is so vastly different from what it surrounds. It doesn't care about the viewer's expectations, whether it be towards the original series or what conventional TV has become. It just throws you head first into the world of Lynch that feels like an accumulation of everything he has done. I thought Inland Empire was the film that he had been working towards his entire career, but this feels like it will be his peak (heh.) Its scope is so vast, dabbling in territory that resembles everything from Eraserhead to Mulholland Drive, while distinctly being post-Inland Lynch. It's undeniable that it will alienate and intrigue more as it progresses (never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd see something like the first 20 minutes of the third episode on television.) It's more for people tuning in for Lynch than it is for Twin Peaks. I hate myself for caving by watching rest on the app because this two week wait now is grueling.

Also, that box scene rivals Winkie's. Absolutely horrifying stuff.

We could use Drive instead of FWWM and I haven't even seen FWWM.

Even though the current blu ray for Drive is very solid.

You're looking for something that the film is not and since you are presenting yourself as some sort of Billy the Kid fan, your acceptance of the film is tainted. There are myriad great films out there based on real events and real people that play fast and loose with the rules. If non-adherence to historical accuracy including the age of the actor playing Billy the Kid is a problem for you, then fine. But when it comes to the craftsmanship of the piece you're on thin ground because despite massive studio interference, it's a good film.

Need is a difficult word here (do we *need* any Criterion releases?), but for Drive they could start with the NWR commentary that is currently only available on the Japanese Blu, produce a few new features/interviews, and you'd be on your way to a pretty solid release.

There are also a few NWR docs out there that don't have US blu releases that could really flesh out a loaded release.

This is one of the first films I really "loved" when I was a teen(age 16) getting really into cinema. It holds sentimental value.

Seems the biggest barrier could be Criterion's lack of interest. Aronofsky has already recorded a commentary that doesn't have a commercial release, he's expressed interest in making another cut, and WB is no longer a barrier to getting rights.

FWWM is about 8 million times the film that Drive is. Drive isn't even worthy of a Criterion.

I think the internet ponders the "worthiness" of films much more than Criterion ever does.

I'd say they're not even comparable in the slightest.

True, because one is so much better than the other.

The answer to the eternal question has been answered by Tom Cruise.

Tom Gun will get a sequel before Criterion releases a Le Samourai blu-ray.

If you are a fan of The Fountain, then I would recommend the original graphic novel penned by the director himself & beautifully illustrated by Kent Williams - but his art may not be to everyone's taste
This was actually released before the film hit cinemas as Darren thought it was never gonna be released

There is also a hardcover book that includes stills, art, and a copy of the script that i was going to recommend as well, but it appears that it's now OOP and difficult to acquire at a reasonable price.
