I do not have a subscription to Film Struck yet, but they do have an "Early Bogdanovich" section....could this finally be a set in Criterion's future?

Blow Out was a pretty good one time watch for me. I re-visited it with my wife and kinda figured that I didn't need to.

I feel that it gets bogged down by the Travolta character's relationships with the minor players. (I can't remember the plot details - if that is with the politicians or the police.) Either way... it isn't particularly interesting, so beyond DePalma's style and a pretty cool finale, there isn't much there for repeat viewings.

My exact thoughts about every De Palma film.

I remember being wowed by Blow Out. That probably was because of the finale and the final shots (which do stand as the best shots I've seen out of any film). I am a fan of thrillers, so I found the whole thing interesting and worth owning. But if you are in it looking for those character relationships, I suppose it could come off as dry and dull.

As much as I value the film, I haven't revisited it and I don't know how it'll hold up on a rewatch. I rewatched some other DePalma stuff earlier in the year (Scarface and Carlito's Way) and found myself a little underwhelmed. Whatever magic I felt before just wasn't there. Carrie seems to be the only one that actually excites me (but that's probably more because it's a Stephen King story).

I am very surprised that you were underwhelmed by Carlito's Way. That's one of my favorite films

First viewing I loved it--I did find the character compelling, and I liked how it was the exact opposite of Scarface (in the sense it's a movie about a man searching for redemption, as opposed to a man falling into damnation).

Second time, I felt indifferent. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood.

I agree, it was a decent film but not one I would ever own. Worth a watch but not De Palma's best.

For anyone who has FilmStruck, can you please answer a couple of questions?

1. Is the basic $6.99 plan worth it?

2. Does the $6.99 plan rotate a limited selection of Criterion movies in and out? I remember hearing that, but I don't know if it's changed.

Should have been since it's inception. Can't believe they still haven't added LG webos though.

I would say, go for $9.99, as it contains the large library of Criterion Channel. Titles are rotated in and out of the Criterion Channel, but you might not be able to watch them when you want to if they are only available at the Criterion Channel (you never know when they'll be available in the regular channel).

The annual subscription fee, including the Criterion Channel, is $99, which equals to $8.25 a month. Unless you want to watch the films suggested by FilmStruck, the added cost is worth every penny, IMO.

The $99 annual package is obviously the best value, but I don't want to jump into that sight unseen.

Do you know how many Criterion movies are included in the $6.99 plan and how often they rotate in and out? With so many great Criterion films, I don't mind having a limited selection as long as that selection changes each month. The way I figure it, the Criterion library is so strong that I'll always have something to watch even with a limited selection.
