I was also saddened by her death because of her huge influence and amazing roles she embodied.

Elevator and "Shoot the Piano Player" upgrades I have kind of given up on, and can't legitimise buying the DVDs.
At least Elevator to the Gallows is in HD on filmstruck and also Amazon.

If i buy the digital HD on Amazon i bet a blu-ray will be announced a few weeks after. Happened with Wait until Dark and Barton Fink

Holy hell. Just watched The Ice Storm. What an ending! Might be my new favorite Ang Lee film.

Super stoked for CCs upcoming release of Barry Lyndon. I wonder if CC will continue re-releasing Kubricks stuff. I had decided to pick up the two disc book version of Clockwork Orange but now Im thinking I might hold off. Or is that just wishful thinking lol

Just blind bought The Seventh Seal. Can't wait to watch it after reading so much about it on here. Got a deal on it and the complete Metropolis on ebay.

I'd love it if CC releases A Clockwork Orange. It's one of my all-time favorites, but the current Blu-Ray editions have always looked a little hazy and gnarly.

Might be worth getting/hanging onto the two-disc set anyway, because I don't think there would be any guarantee that the two big docs (Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures and O Lucky Malcolm!) would be ported over.

I don't know much about how each studio holds on to their specific properties but it would seem that Criterion's addition of Barry Lyndon would open the door to any of the WB titles. It's enough for me to continue holding off on Lolita for the time being. And it will be a certain double-dip for any others, should they release them.

They're releasing Barry Lyndon because it received a new restoration recently. The others have not as far as I know.

These Cary Grant movies seem to be attainable. The bolded ones are titles that I think Criterion would jump at releasing.

Arsenic and Old Lace (Warner Bros)
Bringing Up Baby (Warner Bros)
Destination Tokyo (Warner Bros)
Gunga Din (Warner Bros)
In Name Only (Warner Bros)
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (Warner Bros)
Mr. Lucky (Warner Bros)
My Favorite Wife (Warner Bros)
Room For One More (Warner Bros)
The Awful Truth (Columbia/Sony)
The Talk of the Town (Columbia/Sony)

I'd be interested in almost all of those but Arsenic and Old Lace, Bringing Up Baby, and Gunga Din would top my list. Plus anything with Irene Dunn.

I think Gunga Din would make a great Criterion Collection selection. It's one of my most wanted blus.

I would put Gunga Din in bold there, too. It's a quite influential adventure film, and I can certainly see it fitting in as a Criterion selection. Would be cool.

I was a bit lukewarm on Gunga Din but it's been a while since I saw it. I remember thinking the movie is more about Cary Grant's character than Din.

On a brighter note, Ozu's "Record of a Tenement Gentleman" had Criterion branding on it last night on TCM.
Green Tea Over Rice just got a 4k restoration as well. Good time to be an Ozu fan.

Round Midnight
The Roaring Twenties
The Philadelphia Story
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid
O Lucky Man
Lone Star
Hedwig & The Angry Inch
Captain Blood
Bringing Up Baby
Arsenic and Old Lace

also...

Mean Streets
Barry Lyndon

The fact that these were listed as OOP in the same time as some of the titles licensed to CC, led me to believe that, perhaps, I'm on something here, and that this is not merely a coincidence. We shall see...
It's a good moment to re-post this.

Ah, that's the reason I wasn't surprised when I saw the drawing was for The Philadelphia Story, and also why I think Bringing Up Baby is coming too. I couldn't remember where I got that notion, so thanks for the reminder

The 40th anniversary digibook of A Clockwork Orange is infamous for having clips of a 4K restored master in one of the featurettes on the same disc where the main feature still has the ancient DVD era master.

With that said, I don't think Criterion will be getting A Clockwork Orange. It's too big of a title. If you want to see the difference between A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon, just look at the amount of special features Warner have bothered to make: For ACO they made a bunch of features for the old DVD release, then two more featurettes for the 40th anniversary edition (a 2 disc deluxe digibook release, something that also illustrates the scale of the movie), plus they made yet another ACO featurette for the newest "Masterpiece Collection" Kubrick box set.

Meanwhile, all they've ever bothered to put on any release of Barry Lyndon is a trailer.

I predicted that Criterion would get Barry Lyndon as soon as we heard the news that Criterion had a deal with Warner. And I'm pretty sure they can have Lolita if they want. Eyes Wide Shut is possible as well.

But 2001/Clockwork/Shining/FMJ I think Warner will keep for themselves.

Then again, a couple of years ago I would've never thought that Universal would license out The Thing to any niche label, and now they've given it to Shout in the US as well as an upcoming Arrow release in the UK.

A new scan of A Clockwork Orange would make me so happy. I never bought the blu, so at this point I will wait for a restoration. Please don't make us wait until 2011.
